Join CDM Smith as a Traffic Engineer and help shape the future of Florida's transportation network.
With multiple long-term contracts across FDOT and other government agencies, we're expanding our Maitland team and looking for a talented traffic/transportation engineer eager to make an impact at both the statewide and regional levels.
In this role, you'll work on high‑visibility projects and contribute to innovative solutions that improve mobility, safety, and system performance across Florida. You'll collaborate with a multidisciplinary group of experts while taking on a wide variety of challenging and meaningful assignments, including:
Conducting field reviews and assessing existing conditions
Developing design traffic and existing/future traffic conditions
Performing capacity/LOS and corridor feasibility studies
Executing operational analyses and traffic simulations
Designing and optimizing signal timing
Supporting TSM&O strategy development and performance analysis
Preparing interchange access requests (IOAR, IMR, IJR)
Applying access management principles to improve corridor operations
Performing historical crash reviews and advanced safety analyses
Developing and evaluating multimodal alternatives
Preparing high‑quality technical reports, memorandums, and project documentation
Producing Typical Section, ESAL, and Lane Closure Analysis memorandums
Delivering a wide range of planning, traffic, and transportation engineering support
Serving as a task lead and contributing to pursuits and proposal development
Training mentoring of junior staff

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline. Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in states where an EIT is not obtainable (within 18 months of hire or promotion or transfer). 5 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced traffic modeling software experience with VISSIM, Synchro/Simtraffic, HCS and SIDRA.
Safety analysis experience with the HSM and FDOT methodologies.
Experience with the FDOT Intersection Control Evaluation (ICE) procedure and approval.
Experience working on FDOT traffic studies and be familiar with FDOT project forecasting and traffic analysis manuals.
Certification as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) and Roadway Safety Professional (RSP) is desired.
Familiarity with travel demand modeling is desired.
