Job Description
Provides technical assistance and guidance for due diligence, design, development, building, testing, and inspecting of mechanical systems on infrastructure, building, and construction projects in the public and private sector. Tasks include assisting with research, design, concept development, planning, installation, operation, maintenance, and optimal integration of automatic temperature control, air distribution, hydronic, and plumbing systems, equipment and processes. Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding installation, construction, and operation specifications.
Ensures responsibilities are delivered with quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
- Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, data reports, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
- Perform professional mechanical engineering work and conduct research and inspections of site conditions, equipment, resources, building, infrastructure, usage, and mechanical systems to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and permits.
- Incorporate advanced technology, modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to ensure proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems according to specifications; implement future-ready solutions with mechanical engineering design standards.
- Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on issues related to automatic temperature control systems, air distribution, hydronic systems, and plumbing systems.
- Work independently or with a cross-functional team to execute project work, assist with laying out installation of equipment, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor, and ensuring project work conforms with specifications and regulatory documentation.
- Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, technical drawings, spreadsheets, and illustrations for interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate measurements and calculations, statistical analysis, and reporting.
- Assist with development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects.
- Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations that explain research and findings to address design or construction issues.
- Conduct engineering studies and surveys to gather information for designs and future needs.
- Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data from field investigations, contributing to action plans for low to mid-level risk mitigation.
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
- Collaborate with other engineers and planners on projects with building and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvements.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering and prior mechanical design experience.
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, practices, design/build processes, and their application to project work.
- Experience with building and infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.
- Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
