Senior Product Design Engineer with Brownlee Lighting

WhatWe Need:
Brownlee is looking to add to the team. We are in need of a talented product design engineer to support the development of new and innovative lighting fixtures based on LED technology and controls. Operating within the New Product Development team and working under the head of Product Design & Strategy, this role will be the engineering execution lead for new products.
Responsible for translating design intent into complete, releasable engineering packages that meet technical, compliance, and manufacturability requirements through design release, after which products transition to the Product Engineering team for ERP integration, configuration, and ongoing production support.
- Typically 5-10+ years in product design or mechanical engineering roles.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar) or equivalent experience.
- Advanced proficiency in drafting and modeling in Solid Works. Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. AutoCAD is used occasionally.
- Thorough design and manufacturing knowledge of fabricated metals, extruded metals and plastics, cast metal, spun metal, welding, injection molded and vacuum‑formed plastics, and related manufacturing methods pertinent to commercial‑grade lighting fixture parts.
- Strong understanding of LED technology, controls, and thermal management in interior and exterior lighting fixture design. Experience with IP‑rated enclosure design and environmental testing.
- Strong knowledge of UL 1598 compliance and testing, LM79/80 testing and analysis, etc.
- Must have common industry vendor knowledge of LEDs, drivers, controls, etc.
- Revit and AGi
32 knowledge is a plus. Solid Works Composer knowledge is a plus.
- Design, drafting, and development of new products from concept to design release. Creation of production‑ready drawings with full revision control.
- Execute NPD deliverables through Brownlee’s product development tollgate process under the direction of the head of Product Design & Strategy, ensuring each gate is supported by complete, accurate engineering output.
- In‑house testing: prototype assembly/QC, thermal testing, water‑in‑trusion testing where applicable, light‑meter readings.
- Evaluate product cost targets, support cost reduction initiatives, and collaborate with purchasing and vendors on component pricing and sourcing.
- Creation of bills of material and manufacturing documentation required for design release.
- UL/CSA, LM79, and other testing/certification involvement.
- Assist with tollgate updates and keeping programs on track. Participate in design reviews and cross‑disciplinary problem solving.
- Technical support to production, sales, customer service, and purchasing as needed.
- Improvements to existing products and assistance in the design of custom products as capacity permits.
- Stay current on lighting industry trends, LED technology advancements, and relevant regulatory changes.
- Other responsibilities will be assigned as needed.
Ideally this candidate will work in Brownlee’s Orlando, Florida headquarters. Remote employment may be considered for highly qualified candidates with relevant industry experience.
