Job Overview

The Town of Davie is seeking a Structural Inspector to enforce State and local building codes. This position reports to the Chief Structural Inspector and performs technical inspections related to building construction projects to ensure compliance with Town ordinances and building codes. The work schedule is four (4) days per week, 10 hours per day, Monday through Thursday with shift options 7:00‑5:30 a.m. or 7:30‑6:00 a.m.

Responsibilities
  • Review building construction projects to determine adherence to building codes adopted by the Town.
  • Perform technical inspections and enforce State and local building codes.
  • Report findings and maintain documentation for compliance.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or completion of a GED equivalent.
  • Must meet the qualifications for Structural Inspector as set forth by the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals pursuant to Section 104.16.3 of the Broward County Amendments to the Florida Building Code.
Certification and Experience Requirements (Section 104.16.3)
  • 104.16.3 – Certificate of the Structural Inspector:
    Applicant must be certified by BCAIB as a Standard Inspector or be a Florida Registered Architect or Florida Licensed Professional Engineer in the discipline requested.
  • 104.16.3.1 – Certification by BORA meeting at least one of the following:
    • 104.16.3.1.1 – Florida Registered Architect or Licensed Professional Engineer with two (2) years of HVHZ experience or by passing BORA’s HVHZ exam.
    • 104.16.3.1.2 – BCAIB certified Standard Inspector in the Structural discipline with five (5) years of experience in Florida, including two (2) years in HVHZ, or by passing BORA’s HVHZ exam, with requirement to acquire a G.C. license within one (1) year of initial certification.
    • 104.16.3.1.3 – Licensed G.C. with at least five (5) years of Florida construction experience in the Structural discipline, including two (2) years in HVHZ, or by passing BORA’s HVHZ exam.
    • 104.16.3.1.4 – Five (5) years of construction experience in the Structural discipline in a supervisory capacity, with at least two (2) years in HVHZ, or by passing BORA’s HVHZ exam, requiring an Unlimited G.C. license within one (1) year of initial certification.
    • 104.16.3.1.5 – Ten (10) years construction experience in the Structural discipline, with at least two (2) years in HVHZ, or by passing BORA’s HVHZ exam, requiring an Unlimited G.C. license within one (1) year of initial certification.
    • 104.16.3.2 – Graduate with a Bachelor or Associate of Science Degree in Engineering, Architecture or Building Construction may be credited for two (2) years for a Bachelor's or one (1) year for an Associate toward combined experience requirements. This credit is not applicable toward requirements under Section 104.16.3.1.1.
    • 104.16.3.3 – Limited Building or Residential Inspector certifications may be issued to individuals holding current Building Contractor or Residential Contractor licenses and who otherwise meet the requirements of the appropriate section. Duties limited to scope authorized by their license.
    • 104.16.3.4 – Substitute required two (2) HVHZ years of experience with two (2) years of statewide experience by passing BORA HVHZ exam.
    • 104.16.3.5 – Building Inspectors (structural) certified by BORA on or after July 1, 2020 must obtain a Reinforced Unit Masonry certification within two years from initial BORA certification date.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Current Certificate of Competency as a General Contractor (Unlimited) issued by Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board.
  • Class “A” Unlimited General Contractor issued by Broward County Central Examiners Board or Dade County Construction Trades Qualifying Board, issued on or after January 1, 1968.
  • Florida Registered Architect or Professional Engineer.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record; driver's license must not have been suspended within five (5) years of date of application.
