Transportation Civil Engineer

Palmer Engineering is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Civil Engineer with 5-10 years of professional experience to join either our Jacksonville or Orlando, Florida offices. • Lead and support the design of transportation projects, including highways, streets, intersections, and pedestrian facilities
• Perform field investigations and collect data for roadway assessments, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) reviews, and other transportation-related analyses
• Utilize engineering software (e.g., Open Roads Designer, Microstation, AutoCAD) to create detailed plans, perform quantity estimates, generate roadway alignments and cross sections, analyze survey data, and specifications
• Assist with marketing and business development efforts
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including urban planners, environmental scientists, and construction managers, to ensure project success
• Prepare and lead project reports, technical documents, and presentations for clients and stakeholders
• Participate in community engagement efforts to gather input and address public concerns related to transportation projects
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and industry standards
• Stay current with advancements in transportation engineering and sustainability practices

• Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• 5-10 years of experience in transportation engineering on FDOT projects
• Proficiency with industry‑standard design software such as Open Roads Designer, Microstation, AutoCAD, HEC‑RAS, or similar
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• Experience and familiarity with the procurement process for FDOT projects
• Proficient in MS Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
• Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple tasks concurrently
  
  Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges in a fast‑paced environment
• Experience as Engineer of Record (EOR) on FDOT projects, Pavement Designs, Typical Section Packages, and Design Variations and Exceptions preferred

The base salary range for this position is $ to $. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
