The Mechanical, Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineering Team Leader provides managerial and technical supervision to the Facilities team using expertise and experience with complex technical activities, provides guidance on unconventional or complex programs, direction on design techniques, and new approaches to assignments with conflicting criteria. This position is based in AVCON's Orlando, Florida office.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Manages the workload of the Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection Design team.
- Plans, coordinates, and manages detailed aspects of mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering work related to a variety of large and small HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for Commercial, Institutional, and Public Facilities.
- Preparation of project proposals, tasks, budgets, and schedules.
- Oversees site investigation projects and construction phased services and provides suggestions for engineering projects to ensure that standards and scope requirements are met.
- Ensures the accuracy and code compliance of contract documents and reports.
- Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments/projects.
- Communicates directly with clients-owners, designers, and contractors concerning project cost, staffing, and scheduling.
- Assist in the preparation of the project status reports, contract documents, and engineer's estimates including the collection, assembling, and organizing of project data.
- Seeks out new clients and projects to pursue and assists with the marketing efforts of these projects.
- Recommends staffing needs to upper management; assists in the hiring process of the Mechanical department by assisting in the preparation of job descriptions, reviewing resumes, conducting interviews, and recommending candidates for hire.
- Nights and weekends are generally not required but may occasionally be necessary with little or no advanced notice.
- Bachelor or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 10+ years of formal training and experience with at least five (5) years as a Technical Team Leader.
- Must have experience as a group leader or project engineer on complex, multi-discipline engineering design or projects.
- Advanced knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection engineering and design and be familiar with applicable Codes, standards, and acceptable industry practices.
- Must have proven track record of accomplishments as lead design engineer on mechanical projects and be capable of supervising and directing a team of engineers, designers, and support personnel.
- Proficient with AutoCAD.
- Proficient with REVIT.
- Proficiency with MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word.
- Knowledge of MS PowerPoint, MS Project, and MS SharePoint a plus.
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and clients.
- Ability to organize teams, workplans, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow-up on assignments with minimal supervision.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect privileged client information and documents appropriately.
- Ability to work calmly and effectively in a high-volume office environment under pressure of multiple deadlines.
- Valid drivers' license and maintenance of satisfactory driving record.
- Licensed in the State of Florida as a Professional Engineer, or ability to obtain reciprocity within six (6) months.
- Ability to become licensed in multiple states.
There are supervisory responsibilities associated with this position.
ENVIRONMENTWork usually takes place in a clean, pleasant, and comfortable office setting. Site visits may occasionally take place in an outdoor environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit for long periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
As dictated by client site protocol, candidate will be required to utilize proper personal protective equipment including but not limited to gloves, sleeves, leather protectors, hard hats, safety vests, safety glasses and shields, hearing protection, safety shoes, covers, helmets/hoods, and any additional tools required for the task at hand.
