The Service Manager works with the Branch Manager and is responsible for the Technicians and profitable delivery of HVAC and refrigeration services for a specific branch or branches. This Manager spends most of their time in the field and is directly responsible for the quality of work of the Technicians. Presenting themselves as a trusted company representative, the Service Manager often communicates directly with customers, vendors, and suppliers to ensure accurate communication of job or project status and requirements.
Responsibilities- Provides leadership and builds a collaborative team.
- Communicates company direction, sets expectations and holds team accountable; reviews operating metrics dashboards and takes appropriate action to drive performance.
- Coordinates and communicates with Branch Manager on a continuous basis to assure both are in sync on all activities related to the branch (e.g., manpower requirements, customer, purchasing, policy issues, etc.).
- Ensures Technicians are following customer & Cool Sys standard work practice requirements.
- Helps support the procurement of parts and supplies when tech is on site if needed.
- Anticipates, prevents and resolves issues or problems that could impact customer satisfaction.
- Ensures Technicians are compliant with all inventory management requests.
- Responsible for staff performance appraisals, reviews, and setting improvement goals for their direct reports per company requirements.
- Interview, select, hire, and oversee onboarding of technicians.
- Facilitates a regular training program to ensure that Technicians are properly trained on the latest service techniques and safety procedures for equipment and general working conditions.
- Monitors and manages performance and provides training, coaching and performance feedback to technicians.
- Ensures compliance of Service policies and procedures, including handheld compliance, refrigerant tracking, time and attendance, etc.
- Ensures use of PPE and the application of safe behavior, including driving, by all employees.
- Ensures customer service and quality of work meets customer requirements and Cool Sys standards.
- Performs site visits to ensure proper quality of work has been provided; performs job walks and helps with setting up small projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma, GED, or completion of trade program or technical school.
- College degree, a plus.
- Universal EPA certification.
- 5+ years of hands‑on technical experience in the refrigeration/HVAC service, commercial construction, or a related industry.
- Prior leadership experience is preferred.
- Ability and willingness to work a non‑standard schedule: nights, weekends, and holidays, as necessary.
- Knowledge of commercial refrigeration and HVAC principles and practices, including service hour estimation, labor forecasting, and multiple disciplines involved in the area of responsibility.
