Responsibilities
- Serve as the hands-on technical counterpart to the R&D Engineer, supporting prototype development and testing of HVAC systems
- Build, test, and troubleshoot prototype heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units to ensure safety, reliability, and performance prior to production
- Collaborate with engineering teams to conduct performance and regulatory compliance testing while maintaining lab safety and operational standards
- Assemble, modify, wire, and build prototype HVAC units, electrical components, and test fixtures based on engineering drawings
- Set up and configure testing environments that simulate real-world indoor and outdoor conditions
- Install and utilize data-gathering instrumentation (e.g., thermocouples, temperature and humidity sensors)
- Conduct performance and stress testing of HVAC units in specialized test chambers to evaluate capacity and efficiency
- Collect, analyze, and document test data; prepare reports and communicate results to R&D, engineering, and innovation teams
- Perform routine maintenance, safety checks, and minor repairs on laboratory equipment and test fixtures
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical systems (AC/DC, single-phase and three-phase)
- Troubleshoot HVAC systems, including electrical and refrigeration components
- Assemble and modify mechanical equipment and system components as required
- Safely operate test stand equipment and resolve issues encountered during testing
- Maintain a clean, organized, and secure lab environment, including managing tools and inventory
- Support additional projects and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of R&D
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate degree or technical diploma in HVAC, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering preferred
- 2–5 years of hands-on HVAC experience
- Relevant certifications (e.g., EPA 608, HVAC Excellence) preferred
- Production Team
- Strong hands-on skills in brazing, piping, and electrical wiring
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting wiring and piping diagrams
- Experience with HVAC troubleshooting and system diagnostics
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities
- Flexible and adaptable to work across multiple functional areas
