The Opportunity

The PFAS Process Lead will serve in a seller‑doer role, growing opportunities and leading the execution of projects related to compliance with the proposed per‑ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) regulations. This role focuses on applications of PFAS treatment and destruction technologies in drinking water applications, with potential experience in wastewater reclamation facilities, landfill leachate, and government facilities.

The PFAS Process Lead collaborates with the PFAS Initiative Team, Client Directors, and Project Managers on new business pursuits related to PFAS treatment projects. Responsibilities include business development activities and external marketing opportunities such as presenting at conferences, building and maintaining client relationships, and identifying new business prospects.

The PFAS Process Lead is expected to be well‑versed in all matters of the proposed PFAS regulations and to serve as a technical advisor to internal and external clients. The role includes subject‑matter expertise on compliance with the NPDWR and analytical methods for PFAS monitoring, development of protocols for rapid small‑scale column testing and pilot testing, development and analysis of breakthrough curve models, and design and implementation of adsorption processes for PFAS treatment.

The PFAS Process Lead will work closely with the Emerging Regulations Campaign, Innovation Platform, and Process Department Leadership to apply innovative solutions for clients.

The Team

Black & Veatch Process Engineers develop technical solutions that are critical to winning work and drive design deliverables for critical infrastructure projects with community benefits. The team serves a broad portfolio of water, industrial, and sustainability projects and supports organizations across a variety of sectors.

Key Responsibilities

Client Focus:

  • Identify key client interests and drivers for ongoing projects and new business prospects.
  • Develop creative solutions and approaches to accommodate client goals and objectives.
  • Lead business development or pursuit activities, including pre‑positioning meetings, proposal development, and client interviews.
  • Attend and present on innovative PFAS treatment solutions at conferences.
  • Prepare scopes of services and fee estimates for proposals, new contracts, and amendments.

Project Execution:

  • Serve as a technical advisor with deep understanding of PFAS regulations, rapid column testing, pilot testing, breakthrough curve analysis, and adsorption design.
  • Lead multiple projects and support multiple clients simultaneously, acting as the central point of contact for PFAS treatment queries.
  • Deliver projects within established budget, schedule, and quality expectations.
  • Apply advanced engineering techniques and problem‑solving independently.
  • Coordinate with internal and external team members to ensure successful project execution.
  • Review and mentor junior engineers and data scientists, fostering their technical development.
Management Responsibilities

Acts in the capacity of a lead person, providing direction but not direct management of employees.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Doctoral) in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering.
  • Minimum 11 years of experience in drinking water treatment, including at least 5 years in water quality, treatment, or engineering management.
  • Established leadership skills with deep understanding of consulting, project execution, client services, and business development.
  • Strong communication skills with the capacity to build and maintain client relationships.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 11 years of related work experience.
  • Ability to complete all pre‑employment onboarding requirements, including background checks and drug screening.
