Travel: Approximately 30% regional travel (reimbursed)
Compensation: $115,000–$155,000 annually (DOE)
Additional Compensation: Discretionary annual bonus and $80/month phone allowance
Position OverviewWheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead engineering design and commissioning operations for a growing organization. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing multidisciplinary engineering and commissioning teams, ensuring successful project delivery, maintaining strong client relationships, and supporting business development initiatives. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, proven leadership experience, and the ability to manage multiple projects while driving operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Lead engineering design and commissioning teams responsible for delivering projects that meet client requirements, quality standards, budgets, and project schedules.
- Direct Project Managers, Engineers, Commissioning Agents, Commissioning Technicians, and other technical staff.
- Assign projects based on team expertise, workload, and project requirements.
- Review and approve engineering designs, commissioning plans, specifications, and technical documentation for accuracy and compliance.
- Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and client expectations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, and key stakeholders.
- Support business development efforts by participating in client presentations, proposal development, and marketing initiatives.
- Provide mentorship, coaching, and performance management for engineering and commissioning staff.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve operational processes and project execution.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, operational efficiencies, and business growth.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License required.
- PMI Project Management certification required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of project management experience within engineering design or commissioning.
- Prior leadership experience managing engineering and commissioning teams across multiple concurrent projects.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project.
- Strong knowledge of engineering design, commissioning processes, project management, and building systems.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present to clients and executive leadership.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high‑quality results.
- Experience supporting business development and client relationship management.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams within commercial building, construction, or commissioning environments.
