Senior Structural Engineer

Senior Structural Engineer responsible for leading and coordinating structural design and construction administration for complex projects.

• Collaborate with architects and engineering discipline leads to develop designs and drive projects forward, independently or leading small project teams and mentoring EITs.
• Coordinate the work of the structural design team through design development and contract document phases.
• Establish and participate in reviews with governing agencies for code compliance.
• Conduct design development and contract document work sessions at project sites with the Project Manager and other disciplines.
• Coordinate workload through design development and construction document phases to complete documents on schedule.
• Assist affected disciplines with addenda, requests for information, change proposal requests and change orders, incorporating agreed‑upon changes into project documents.
• Perform site visits and lead construction administration efforts.
• Write and edit structural specifications, select procedures, materials and sizes, and complete necessary calculations.
• Review structural documents for conflicts with all disciplines and best practices/industry standards.
• Perform other duties as needed.

• Master's degree in Architectural Engineering with structural emphasis.
• 12 years of progressive structural engineering experience on projects of similar scale and complexity to HDR’s.
• Strong communication skills and emerging leadership aptitude with an entrepreneurial spirit.
• Knowledge of building codes such as IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC, and TMS.
• Interest in structural engineering related to buildings or water facilities.

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Minimum of 10 years structural engineering experience related to building design.
• Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position (e.g., PE or P.Eng).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar analytical software.
• Experience in design calculations and layouts.
• Ability to design and detail in steel, concrete, masonry, and wood.
• Understanding of gravity analysis and lateral analysis.
• Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
• Commitment to participation in employee‑owned culture.
