Hannover Life Reassurance Company of America (Hannover Re) is currently seeking a talented candidate for the AVP, Actuary position. This is a full‑time role within the Life Solutions department.

Job Summary

The purpose of the role is to ensure the financial success of Life Solutions through the development and implementation of compelling reinsurance solutions that achieve appropriate returns relative to the risk profiles assumed by Hannover Re affiliates. The role involves close cooperation with disciplines that interface with new business generation, including Accounting, Finance and Reporting, Local and Group Risk Management, Global Investment Management, and internal and external legal counsel.

The focus is on modelling reinsurance and structured transactions, pricing per underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements, overseeing direct and retrocession agreements and documentation, and coordinating implementation.

Essential Functions

Structuring and Pricing (40%)

Structures and prices transactions, reviews and analyzes historical experience, develops pricing assumptions and actuarial models, projects cash flows and financial results, defines transaction structure, and presents results to stakeholders and clients. Documents pricing to facilitate peer review, approvals, and communication, ensuring an attractive risk/return profile while complying with guidelines.

Deal Management (20%)

Collaborates with clients to obtain required data and documentation, ensuring the transaction continues to meet business needs, and communicates any issues that may affect execution timelines or necessitate changes to the structure or pricing.

Treaty Construction (15%)

Works with counsel and clients to produce reinsurance treaties and contract documentation that accurately reflect the transaction structure, pricing, and obligations, ensuring consistency with pricing and model work.

Implementation (15%)

Liaises with functional units to ensure efficient implementation and management of new transactions. Works with internal retrocession partners to obtain coverage where necessary, optimizing regulatory, capital and tax positions.

Research & Development (10%)

Researches regulatory developments, accounting standard differences, tax law changes, product developments, filings, client developments, and other aspects to ensure relevance and value of life reinsurance solutions.

Education/Experience
  • Undergraduate degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science or similar.
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (or ASA with equivalent experience).
  • Minimum six years of experience pricing various kinds of insurance and annuities.
  • Ability to read, analyze, manipulate, and interpret complex, technical documents and data; respond to inquiries from employees and management.
  • Ability to analyze large amounts of information, identify issues, fill gaps, and draw accurate conclusions.
  • Ability to quickly conceptualize efficient designs for complex transactions.
  • Significant experience in valuation and pricing of life insurance products.
  • Experience with reinsurance for life insurance products.
Computer Skills
  • Microsoft PC software:
    Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, Teams, Co‑Pilot.
Language Ability
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of U.S. statutory, tax and GAAP/IFRS accounting for life products.
  • Working knowledge of multi‑jurisdictional tax and capital requirements.
  • Experience managing and coordinating projects, resources, and people; strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Actuarial modelling experience (e.g., MoSes/Risk Agility, MG‑ALFA, TAS, AXIS, PTS, etc.).

Travel: 10% of time expected to be spent traveling to visit clients, attend conferences and seminars.
