Role Overview
The AML & KYC Analyst will support the day-to-day operation of the Group's Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) framework. The role will focus primarily on customer due diligence, enhanced due diligence, transaction monitoring, ongoing client reviews, and the maintenance of accurate AML/KYC records. The successful candidate will have approximately 1-3 years of relevant AML/KYC or financial crime experience and will work closely with the MLRO, Compliance team, and relevant business and operational functions across the Group.
Key Responsibilities Customer Due Diligence and Ongoing Monitoring- Perform Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) reviews in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures
- Review customer identification and verification documentation, beneficial ownership and control structures, Source of Funds (SoF), Source of Wealth (SoW), and other relevant KYC information
- Carry out customer risk assessments and ensure risk ratings are appropriately documented and supported
- Conduct periodic and event-driven reviews of existing customers and ensure records remain complete, accurate, and up to date
- Conduct or support PEP, sanctions, and adverse media screening and review potential matches in accordance with internal procedures
- Identify and escape AML/CFT risks, inconsistencies, and red flags to the MLRO or senior Compliance personnel as appropriate
- Conduct transaction monitoring reviews and investigate unusual or potentially suspicious customer activity
- Analyse transactional activity against expected customer behaviour, customer profiles, and identified risk factors
- Gather and assess relevant information to support transaction monitoring investigations
- Prepare clear and concise transaction monitoring review reports, documenting findings, rationale, and recommended next steps
- Escalate potentially suspicious activity in accordance with internal procedures
- Support the preparation of internal suspicious activity reports and provide information required for Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs), where appropriate
- Support the execution of the AML Monitoring Programme through sample reviews, file testing, and other monitoring activities
- Assist with thematic reviews and control testing under the guidance of senior Compliance personnel
- Identify potential control weaknesses or procedural gaps and identify findings appropriately
- Assist with remediation activities arising from monitoring reviews, internal audits, external audits, or regulatory reviews
- Maintain appropriate supporting documentation and evidence of AML control activities
- Assist with the preparation of AML/CFT-related management information and internal compliance reporting
- Support regulatory information requests and data-gathering exercises as required
- Maintain complete and accurate AML/KYC records and audit trails
- Assist the MLRO and Compliance team with the collation of information required for regulatory or internal reporting
- Keep up to date with relevant AML/CFT regulatory and industry developments affecting Ballinger Europe Limited, Ballinger Markets Ltd, and the wider Group
- Support the Compliance team with the implementation of procedural changes arising from regulatory developments
- Provide day-to-day AML/KYC support to business and operational teams, escalating more complex matters where appropriate
- Respond to routine AML/KYC queries in accordance with internal policies and procedures
- Collaborate with colleagues across the Group on AML, KYC, compliance, and remediation projects
- Support awareness of AML/CFT requirements and good compliance practices across the business
- Perform other duties that are reasonably required and appropriate to the level of the role
- 1-3 years of relevant experience in AML, KYC, financial crime, compliance, or a similar role within financial services
- Practical experience conducting CDD and, ideally, EDD reviews
- Experience with periodic reviews, ongoing monitoring, or transaction monitoring
- Good understanding of customer risk assessment, beneficial ownership, PEPs, sanctions, adverse media, Source of Funds, and Source of Wealth
- Ability to identify AML/CFT red flags and elevate concerns appropriately
- Experience reviewing customer or transactional information and documenting conclusions clearly
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently on routine cases while seeking guidance on more complex or higher-risk matters
- Comfortable working collaboratively with Compliance, Operations, and business teams
