Starting Pay

$41,142/yr or $42,390 with 3+ years of experience

Field Service Officers (FSO) respond to non-emergency calls such as traffic enforcement (i.e. directing traffic, parking violations, traffic accidents, abandoned/disabled vehicles blocking traffic), providing crossing guard duties when necessary to include taking appropriate action in accordance with agency policy and procedures and Florida State Statue 316.640(3)(b) and (24.06).

Minimum Requirements
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
  • U.S. Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card.
  • Clean criminal history; any arrest history will be individually evaluated.
  • No illegal drug usage within the past year. Other drug usage will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) AND two (2) years of related experience AND/OR the equivalent combination of education/training. Related experience to include the following: customer service, records management/maintenance, criminal justice, social services, etc.
  • Upon selection, must be able to pass a psychological evaluation and complete infectious disease training within ten (10) working days of the effective transfer date (if applicable). Once the infectious disease training is complete, a Hepatitis B shot will be offered.
  • Must be able to obtain Public Notary, Certification FCIC/NCIC, D.A.V.I.D/CJNet certifications within six (6) months of employment.
  • Must have valid Florida driver’s license. Must attend and successfully complete the agency sponsored Law Enforcement Vehicle Operations (LEVO) Training if assignment includes driving agency vehicle. Use of agency vehicle would require appropriate driving history and passing agency biennial driver’s physical exam.
  • Must be able to obtain CPR Certification, and Parking Enforcement Certification within one (1) year of employment and maintain mandatory re-certification requirements.
  • Must successfully complete the Field Service Officer Training Program and Traffic Enforcement Training program within one (1) year of employment.
  • Ability to respond to calls and process crime scenes to include photographing crime scenes, collecting evidence, interviewing victims, and taking statements. Write reports using data gathered. Investigate assigned traffic accidents/incidents scenes as assigned.
  • Ability to review/approve/route electronic crime reports submitted to the Orange County Sheriff's Office via the Agency’s web based self-reporting program.
  • May testify in Traffic, County, Civil and Juvenile Court and in depositions which include misdemeanor/felony cases, traffic infraction hearings, civil suits, and criminal traffic hearings.
  • Ability to submit criteria/report verification, report routing to the appropriate Investigative Unit, acting as a liaison with the public and complainants, maintaining email folders and creating various logs/ statistical reports.
  • May serve as a training liaison for newly hired FSOs under the direction of the FSO Supervisor.
  • Must have proficient verbal communication skills and active listening skills in order to discuss sensitive topics/issues with a diverse population (i.e. age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, culture, socio- economic level, etc.).
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • May be required to interact with and represent the agency in front of the public on a regular basis.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematical concepts (i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication, and geometry).
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding when carrying out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must have basic computer skills to include word processing applications.
