Job Summary

Effective October 1, 2026. Salary: $69,932 (base) with incentives of $71,777 yearly, up to $116,929 annually. Newly hired Police Officers with two or more years of relevant experience may be placed in Grade 2 of the Police Officer Pay Plan with a yearly salary of $74,559 base plus incentives of $76,404.

Responsibilities
  • Perform professional law‑enforcement work to maintain order, protect the public, and enforce laws.
  • Detect and prevent crime, direct and control traffic, and investigate and apprehend suspects.
  • Work under general supervision of a Police Sergeant.
  • Maintain proficiency in the use of police equipment.
  • Provide service to all persons of differing race, sex, religious affiliation, age group, and physical disability.
  • Testify as a law‑enforcement officer for the State Attorney’s Office and the United States.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. meeting state standards; college coursework preferred.
  • Age 19 or older (preferred) and U.S. citizenship.
  • Physical condition and vision requirements:
    One eye 20/100 corrected to 20/20; the other eye no more than 20/70 corrected to 20/20.
  • Good moral character with no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral character, perjury, or false statements.
  • Must meet restrictive drug testing standards and possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.
Probationary Period

Permanent status requires a probationary period of twelve (12) months. Performance will be carefully evaluated; permanent status will be granted only if performance is satisfactory.

  • Work at any hour of the day, any day of the week, and on any recognized holiday.
  • Work in any area of the city and maintain proficiency with police equipment.
  • Report to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for background checks.
  • Comply with department policy on body adornments; offensive tattoos or scarifications must be covered at all times.

Process Overview

Applicants should first complete the Police Officer application. Qualified candidates will next complete the Frontline National Civil Service Exam (Frontline National Exam) conducted by National Testing Network (NTN). Candidates may take the exam on‑site in Orlando or virtually via NTN. Successful exam candidates may be invited to a Physical Assessment Test (PAT) and a panel interview.
