Your Specific Responsibilities:
- Performs complex technical and training duties in the development and use of plans to protect the public and environment during radiation accidents.
- Assists in developing and presenting radiological emergency response classes to staff and outside agency personnel as directed or approved by the supervisor; assists in developing and conducting classes for first responders and hospital emergency room personnel in radiological emergency response; critiques drills and exercises in radiological emergency response; participates in medical service drills.
- Conducts routine radio checks; assists in semi-annual inventory and restocking of the mobile lab, sample preparation vehicle, field team trailer, and emergency kits after each power plant exercise; maintains calibration records of hand-held radiation detection instruments used for radiological emergency response; coordinates the annual emergency worker dosimeter program.
- Provides assigned maintenance of building safety, security and support systems (i.e., alarm tests, fire extinguisher checks, first aid kit updates, security camera and security lights check); provides assigned building facilities preservation maintenance and upkeep; conducts state vehicle preventative and routine maintenance.
- Assists in Low Level Waste Inspections, Environmental Monitoring and Sample Collections, Source Support, and Incident Response Management as requested. Serves as a member of Florida's Radiological Emergency Response Team. Participates in nuclear power plant exercises. Other related duties.
Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. Available on a 24-hour-a-day basis for response to radiation emergencies.
Perform duties as a member of the State Radiation Emergency Response Team. Employee is subject to emergency calls from his residence for the protection of life or property. This position is in compliance with and monitors compliance (when applicable) with the mandatory requirements in Sections 215.422 and 112.061, Florida Statutes, and Chapter , Florida Administrative Code. The incumbent is considered to have regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of Chapter 60L-36.003, Florida Administrative Code.
Must have a valid Florida Driver's License. The incumbent in this position may be required to use vehicles owned, leased, or operated by the state or county to conduct official state business. State or county vehicles shall be used only for officially authorized duties and not for personal use, unless a specific exception applies under Florida law (F.S. § 287.17).
Must be able to lift 60 pounds of equipment. Pcard responsibilities. Must receive a minimum score of 70% on each written exam of the required core training modules and must attend all required core training courses designated in the training and qualification procedures.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the terminology, principles and analytical techniques of radiation.
- Knowledge of the principles of radiation detection instruments and their use.
