the florida gaming control commission is responsible for exercising all regulatory and executive powers of the state with respect to legal gaming, including pari-mutuel wagering, cardrooms, slot machine facilities, oversight of gaming compacts, and other forms of gambling authorized by state law, excluding the lottery, as well as directly enforcing florida’s gaming laws and combatting illegal gambling activities.

The mission of the florida gaming control commission is to preserve and protect the integrity of gaming activities through fair regulation, licensing, effective criminal investigation, and enforcement.

this is work conducting investigations, which may include processing appeals and/or extensive fieldwork involving alleged complex violations of the florida statutes. The incumbent of this position is responsible for conducting background investigations of possible violations of chapters 550 and 551, and section 849.086, florida statutes. Primary duties of the position will include investigating complaints and alleged violations of chapters 550 and 551, and section 849.086, florida statutes, and chapter 75 of the florida administrative code.

the duties include:

• conducting background investigations of applicants for pari-mutuel and slot occupational licenses;
• securing, evaluating, and documenting evidence;
• opening investigative case files using an internal case management system and preparing written detailed investigative reports;
• coordination with law enforcement agencies when investigating violations of mutual concern;
• assisting agency attorneys with the preparation of cases and testifying at hearings;
• inspection and compliance confirmation of permit holder internal controls;
• conducting undercover investigations and operation of surveillance equipment as needed;
• performing regular and routine inspections of pari-mutuel and/or slot facility operations to ensure compliance with section 849.086 and chapters 550 and 551, florida statutes, and chapter 75 of the florida administrative code;
• briefing and advising investigation managers and the chief of investigations regarding active investigations and developing areas of concern; and
• performing related work as assigned.

• knowledge of and ability to understand and apply applicable florida statutes, rules and policies, and procedures relating to the pari-mutuel industry;
• microsoft office and general computer skills;
• ability to collect, record, and verify data relating to the pari-mutuel industry;
• ability to use available technology to perform duties including computer software, hardware, and data systems;
• ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
• ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions;
• ability to produce detailed, clear, and concise written reports;
• ability to adapt to a changing environment; and
• ability to safely operate an agency automobile.

• valid driver’s license;
• high school diploma or its equivalent;
• five (5) years of qualifying investigative experience or similar pari-mutuel wagering experience.

is defined as independent investigative experience which includes the following activities: interviewing and interrogating witnesses, collecting and analyzing data and evidence, writing and summarizing case narratives, and testifying at criminal proceedings and administrative hearings. Experience must be clearly supported on the candidate's profile (employment application).
