Job SummaryPerforms a variety of barbering services at a main branch or location haircare facility for authorized military and civilian personnel.
Duties and Responsibilities- Provides barbering hair care services for clients, including shampooing, conditioning, cutting, shaping sideburns, nape, middle and top parts of the head into various haircuts and styles to suit client preferences.
- Shaves facial styles, mustache and beard; massages neck, face and scalp.
- Checks client’s scalp and hair for visible disorders such as sores, abrasions, diseases that might interfere with requested services.
- Consults with client on matters pertaining to their hair care needs.
- Maintains combs in solution and sanitizes equipment with chemical or physical agents; responsible for upkeep and cleanliness of workstation and shop.
- Prepares shampoo and towels to minimize delays in customer service.
- Performs minor equipment repairs (e.g., replacing switches, plugs, cords).
- Operates cash register, prepares hair care chits, collects and accounts for cash received, balances daily sales using Salesperson’s Daily Cash Report.
- Sells hair care products to clients and maintains Daily Appointment Book by client name, time, and assigned Stylist/Barber.
- May open and close shop and assists with monthly inventory.
- Carries out policy of courtesy and customer service; ensures 100% client satisfaction.
- Works under general supervision, carrying out assignments independently within prescribed policies and procedures while exercising tact with clients.
- Undergoes regular quality reviews based on service quality and client satisfaction.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requires continual use of both arms and legs involving frequent standing, reaching, and light lifting. Objects handled include beauty service apparatus and appliances that seldom weigh more than 5 pounds. Dexterity is required in applying manual techniques.
WORKING CONDITIONSWork is performed inside a haircare facility with proper lighting, sufficient plumbing and heating, adequate aisle space, strong water pressure, plenty of hot water, and adequate electric power and outlets for appliances and apparatus. Incumbent is exposed to cuts, burns, strains, electric shock, hair cuttings, skin conditions, common colds, and communicable diseases. Must wear a smock, wash hands thoroughly and frequently with soap and water, and sanitize barbering tools after each use.
MINIMUMQUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Graduate of an accredited school of barber culture or cosmetology and possession of a valid State License in Barbering or Cosmetology.
MEDICAL SCREENING REQUIREMENTAll barber shop and beauty shop employees, including contract personnel, must be medically screened and determined to be free of communicable diseases prior to initial assignment. No requirement for periodic examinations unless locally required.
EDUCATION AND LICENSEGraduate of an accredited school of barber culture or cosmetology and possession of a valid State License in Barbering or Cosmetology. Candidates selected for hire who possess a U.S. State License in Cosmetology from a State other than the State where the position is located must obtain a valid State License in Barbering or Cosmetology in the State where the position is located within six months from the date of hire.
