Position Summary

The Speech Language Pathologist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats speech, language, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders in patients of all ages with varying acuity levels.

ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions
  • Evaluates patients, gathering data from the patient, physician, interdisciplinary team meetings (if available), family and significant others, and other data sources.
  • Develops treatment plans which integrate with the continuum of care and have specific goals and objectives; demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned caseload.
  • Assesses data reflective of the patient’s status and interprets information needed to identify age-specific requirements; provides care as delineated in departmental policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates competency in the use, care and maintenance of profession-specific equipment, observing safety precautions, and providing verbal explanations of the equipment and its purpose.
  • Re-evaluates and modifies treatment plans and goals when appropriate; prepares written documentation as required by the department and the care team.
  • Recognizes and communicates when the patient has received optimal benefit from speech therapy.
  • Ensures accurate billing.
  • Adheres to State Practice Act and Standards of Practice.
  • Maintains regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies and applicable federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
  • Participates in Performance Improvement, program development, student supervision, assigned committees, safety and infection control, as required.
  • Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Attends rehabilitation meetings, in-services, and any patient care meetings required for the assignment.
  • Practices efficient use and selection of supplies and equipment; instructs support personnel in their duties as necessary.
QualificationsEducation/Training

Master’s degree in speech/language pathology from an approved program. Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) may apply.

Licensure/Certification
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence or active engagement in the Clinical Fellowship Year requirements.
  • Maintains current Speech Language Pathologist license in the State of Florida; provisional license is acceptable.
  • Maintains current BLS/Health Care Provider Certification.
Experience

One year of adult experience.
