Interventional Radiology Technologist – Orlando Health

The Interventional Radiology Technologist provides high-quality, patient-centered imaging and procedural support for diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures. The role works collaboratively with interventional radiologists, registered nurses, and the multidisciplinary IR team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality procedures while upholding Orlando Health’s standards of excellence.

Position Summary

The IR Technologist is responsible for operating imaging equipment, maintaining sterile technique, preparing procedural supplies, assisting physicians during complex interventions, and ensuring optimal image quality and radiation safety in a fast-paced, technologically advanced environment.

Key Highlights
  • Perform imaging and technical support before, during, and after interventional radiology procedures
  • Operate fluoroscopy and other imaging modalities while adhering to radiation safety standards
  • Assist physicians during interventional and diagnostic IR procedures, including vascular and non-vascular cases
  • Prepare procedure rooms, maintain sterile fields, and ensure equipment and supplies are ready and functioning
  • Monitor patients during procedures in collaboration with nursing staff and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition
  • Accurately document procedures, contrast usage, and imaging data

Responsibilities
  • Exercise professional judgment in performance of services and maintain a demeanor complementary to quality care.
  • Deliver appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures and protocols.
  • Assist the physician in producing diagnostic imaging and related procedures to demonstrate anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention.
  • Assist physician in all procedures as necessary.
  • Ensure that the patient’s education about the procedure performed, needs, safety and comfort are met while in their care.
  • Comply with all state and federal regulations applicable to each modality.
  • Adhere to Orlando Health mission statements and commitment to excellence standards.
  • Assess the patient’s physical condition and age‑specific needs.
  • Provide instructions that achieve patient cooperation and desired results.
  • Perform proper patient identification, acquire patient’s clinical history and assure that the information is accurately documented and communicated to appropriate team members.
  • Position patient, equipment, associated devices and manipulate technical factors to achieve high quality images for interpretation.
  • Assess diagnostic images for technical quality, proper annotation and patient identification, ensuring that all relative anatomy is demonstrated.
  • Apply principles of radiation safety to minimize exposure to patients, self and others.
  • Comprehend and comply with Quality Control standards and participate in all Quality Control tasks.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in contrast medication administration with and without use of power injectors.
  • Apply sterile techniques and appropriate standard precautions in utilizing PPE to prevent cross contamination in accordance with OH policy and training procedures.
  • Administer medical aid as required in cases of adverse reaction to contrast medication and/or other emergencies.
  • Assist in supervision of student technologists and training of new technologists.
  • Utilize all Corporate Radiology computer systems effectively and accurately.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in supply usage, charging and documentation.
  • Ensure safety of all customers.
  • Locate, use and troubleshoot complex technical equipment/instruments.
