Position: FINANCIAL COUNSELOR/FT

University Behavioral Center, a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), is committed to providing intensive mental health services to children, adolescents and adults as well as detox and substance abuse programs for adults. Our mental health facility provides safe and effective inpatient treatment to assist individuals in leading more productive and fulfilling lives. The facility is located on a beautiful 14-acre campus in Orlando, Florida, and includes 112 licensed beds.

Position

Summary

The Financial Counselor is responsible for performing comprehensive financial assessments to determine a patient’s ability to pay, collect deposits, negotiating payment arrangements, securing financing for self‑pay balances, and identifying available funding sources. This position supports both front end functions and requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment.

This role is scheduled as four (4) 10‑hour shifts, which includes a required weekday/some weekends, and operates under productivity and goal based performance standards.

Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Provides benefit education to patients, parents and guarantors, effectively communicates insurance, claims or patient’s self‑pay responsibilities to patients, determines accurate third party and self‑pay liability, requests upfront collections of self‑pay deposits from patients both inpatient and outpatient, ensures all patients will be "financially secured" as soon as possible, but no later than ntaining collection logs.
  • Completing census reports.
  • Provides assistance to indigent patients in completing and submitting paperwork for Mass Health, creates agreements with patients that are not financially able to pay off account in full, but can pay set amount monthly until balance is paid in full. Regularly follows up with responsible party on incomplete documentation, COB forms, patient balances and/or additional information requests related to financial responsibility counseling or insurance verification.
  • Prioritizes follow‑up on self‑pay accounts as appropriate, but no less than every 30 days. Self‑pay call follow‑up.

Qualifications

High School Graduate/GED. Bachelor’s Degree preferred
