Opening with 124 beds, the 455,000 square foot hospital will be able to expand to up to 240 beds.
State‑of‑the‑art facilities include operating rooms, catheterization labs, interventional radiology, a vascular lab, an ICU and a full‑service emergency department.

Second Shift, 4 x 10 hour shift, rotating weekends & holidays.

The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Sr. evaluates, analyzes, and performs automated and complex laboratory procedures, monitors workflow, and ensures regulatory compliance in the assigned area of responsibility.

Essential Functions:
- Maintain active participation in the corporate technical committee for assigned area, including assisting with policy development and revisions (quality control and maintenance).
- Instrument evaluation, selection, and impact on laboratory operations.
- Defining competency requirements.
- Creation of student education plans.
- Input into quality management plans.
- Input into process improvement plans.
- Ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Maintaining test menus based on organizational needs.
Additional responsibilities:
- Resolve problems and identify the most appropriate solution to ensure the lab meets its objectives.
- Monitor and participate in daily departmental operations.
- Address customer concerns and follow up in a timely manner.
- Serve as a resource to other team members in the department.
- Perform audits to ensure compliance as needed.
- Assist with resolving issues in the absence of the supervisor.
- Make recommendations for alternative methodology of current procedures and coordinate changes as required, including clinical trials.
- Recommend skill mix based on technical complexity.
- Support the supervisor and manager in maintaining the operational budget within projected constraints.
- Monitor appropriate test utilization.
- Train new team members at the supervisor’s request.
- Complete competency documentation for team members in their area of responsibility.
- Ensure the Orlando Health Clinical Laboratory is inspection ready.
- Maintain good communication with all laboratory team members and customers, including pathologists, physicians, and other customers served by the laboratory.
- Maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Education / Training
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Successful completion of an approved clinical laboratory training internship.
Licensure / Certification
- Maintain current Florida license as a Medical Technologist certified in the specialty/specialties required for the laboratory section assigned. Supervisor license preferred.
- National certification such as ASCP, AAB, or AMT preferred.
Experience
- Three (3) years MLS experience required. Based on area of assignment, department‑specific competencies may be required.
