OverviewThis full‑time Public Area Attendant is responsible for maintaining the lobby and public facilities in a neat and clean condition. The role promotes a positive image of the property to guests and requires a pleasant, honest, and friendly approach while addressing guest requests and problems.
Responsibilities- Cleans hallways, restrooms, and banquet halls.
- Sweeps carpets, empties ashtrays and urns, polishes furniture and fixtures.
- Keeps the front of the hotel free from trash.
- Cleans rugs, carpets, and upholstered furniture using a vacuum cleaner, broom and shampoo machine.
- Washes walls and ceilings, moves and arranges furniture, and turns mattresses.
- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors.
- Dusts and polishes metal work.
- Attends daily briefings for functions and events held in the hotel.
- Performs assigned tasks in toilets, lifts, back areas, terrace, etc.
- Cleans and maintains all equipment daily.
- Follows a special cleaning schedule given by the housekeeping control desk.
- Reports maintenance issues to the supervisor or housekeeping desk immediately.
- Complies with the Lost and Found Policy of the hotel.
- Assists guests in public areas when required.
- Maintains knowledge of all hotel facilities, operating hours, restaurants, shops, and function rooms.
- Maintains inventory in the housekeeping closets.
- Posts caution signs as and when required.
- Follows departmental policies and procedures.
- Maintains company equipment.
- Maintains a time schedule for cleaning their areas.
- Performs other housekeeping duties as assigned.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Less than a high school education; or up to six months of related experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior experience in a public‑area or hospitality environment.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English effectively with guests, other departments, and vendors.
- Diplomatic communication skills and consistency with professionalism.
- Physical ability to lift and/or move 25–30 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds frequently.
The employee must be able to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and recognize similarities and differences between words and series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences is required. Must be able to speak English to communicate with guests and recognize situations that may involve guests requiring supervisory attention. Must use reasonable care for the safety and security of guests.
