Job Summary

We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to manage payroll processing for both W-2 employees and 1099 contractors across multiple states and jurisdictions. This role ensures accurate and timely payroll while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The Payroll Specialist will serve as a key resource for payroll inquiries and work closely with Operations, Finance, and leadership teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process high-volume weekly payroll for W-2 employees and 1099 contractors
  • Ensure accurate calculation of wages, overtime, commissions, and deductions
  • Manage multi-state and multi-jurisdiction payroll compliance, including taxes and reporting
  • Maintain payroll records for new hires, terminations, and employee status changes
  • Review and audit timecards and payroll data for accuracy and compliance
  • Process garnishments, benefits deductions, and tax with holdings
  • Respond to payroll inquiries from employees and contractors
  • Reconcile payroll reports and assist with month-end and year-end processes
  • Ensure confidentiality and security of payroll data
  • Support audits and regulatory inquiries as needed
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of payroll experience including W-2 and 1099 processing
  • Demonstrated experience with multi-state and multi-jurisdiction payroll
  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws and tax regulations
  • Proficiency with payroll systems (ADP, Paychex, UKG, Workday, or similar)
  • Clear and professional communication skills, especially when responding to employee inquiries
  • Advanced attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
Preferred Skills
  • Experience in staffing, professional services, or high-volume payroll environments
  • Knowledge of timekeeping systems and payroll integrations
