Description
Leidos is seeking a Communications Network Engineer to serve at the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division Orlando (ORLO) located at 12211 Science Dr, Orlando, FL 32826.
More About the RoleThe engineer will support the Navy-Marine Corps Intranet as part of the SMIT team, delivering cybersecurity, network operations, service desk, and data transport services to unify shore‑based networks. The position is located primarily in the DeFlorez building but may require travel within a fifteen–mile radius.
Responsibilities- Respond to changing priorities using Network Services skill set.
- Analyze and define network requirements for NAWCTSD NAVAIR operations.
- Plan, design, and evaluate network components; provide specifications for architecture.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies to enhance capabilities.
- Perform needs assessments, monitoring, installation, modification, testing, and servicing of network equipment.
- Change VLAN configurations on network port configurations.
- Define and maintain network architecture and infrastructure.
- Configure and optimize network servers, hubs, routers, and switches.
- Generate switch activity logs and capacity reports.
- Recommend cleanup or upgrades to communication closets.
- Activate, deactivate, and logically move ports on switches to support Move/Add/Change moves.
- Engage the NMCI NOC for incidents exceeding their capabilities.
- Diagnose and resolve network problems.
- Install, test, maintain, and upgrade network operating systems.
- Apply information security and assurance policies in service delivery.
- Provide monthly activity reports on trouble calls, outages, and port issues.
- Maintain direct access to VIP Help Desk for expedited servicing.
- Serve as primary contact during Premier Support periods and provide mobile phone if needed.
- US Citizen with a DoD Secret Clearance.
- High School diploma with 4+ years of relevant experience; additional education or certifications accepted in lieu of experience.
- Valid DoD 8570 IAT Level II:
Security+ or higher. - Active CCNA Certification.
- Expertise in IT Enterprise Operations and Network Operations.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows 10.
- Experience with HP Service Manager, Remedy, or similar help‑desk ticketing.
- Advanced network troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent customer service, oral and written communication skills.
- Organized, detail‑oriented.
- Strong leadership and self‑motivation.
- Collaboration, prioritization, and adaptability skills.
- Ability to manage and prioritize own work and that of a team.
- Independent decision making and analytical thinking.
- Effective communication across organizational levels.
- Lifting up to 50 lbs. over 10 feet; lifting 25 lbs. vertically via ladders.
- Work in confined spaces, raised floors, communications closets, noisy environments; stand or sit for 8+ hours.
- Use basic hand tools for rack mounting equipment.
- Normal color vision; 20/20 corrected vision; depth perception.
- Use of digital test equipment such as OTDR.
- Drive personal or corporate vehicle; valid driver’s license required.
Pay Range: $30.00 – $39.00 per hour.
