As a Legal Assistant, you will provide critical administrative and legal support, assisting with case management, drafting legal documents, and ensuring smooth operations in a fast-paced legal setting. The role requires excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with clients, attorneys, and court personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative support to attorneys, including managing calendars, scheduling meetings, and coordinating appointments.
- Draft, proofread, and file legal documents such as motions, pleadings, discovery requests, and correspondence.
- Prepare case files and maintain accurate, up-to-date records for ongoing cases.
- Assist with legal research, summarizing case law, statutes, and regulations.
- Communicate with clients to gather information, provide updates, and schedule meetings.
- Coordinate filings with courts and government agencies, ensuring timely submission of documents.
- Manage case tracking systems and monitor deadlines for various legal tasks.
- Organize and maintain physical and digital case files.
- Assist with trial preparation, including preparing exhibits, witness lists, and other trial-related documents.
- Handle confidential and sensitive information in a professional and secure manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned by attorneys or office management.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Legal Assistant within a law firm.
- Knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and documentation for various areas of law (e.g., civil litigation, family law, real estate, corporate law).
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Proficiency with legal research tools and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience with legal case management software (e.g., Clio, Lexis Nexis, or similar platforms).
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain professionalism when interacting with clients and staff.
- Knowledge of Florida state and federal court rules and procedures is preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required;
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in paralegal studies or related field preferred.
