General Description

A Front End Loader is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Loader. This position operates loaders equipped with a front‑mounted hydraulically powered bucket or scoop used to transport aggregate or other materials, feed hoppers or chutes, and/or stockpile aggregates.

Key Duties
  • Operate straight or articulated rubber‑tired tractor‑type vehicle equipped with front‑mounted hydraulically powered bucket or scoop to lift and transport bulk materials to and from storage or processing areas, feed conveyors, hoppers, or chutes, and/or stockpile aggregates.
  • Start engine, shift gears, press pedals, and turn steering wheel to operate loader.
  • Move levers to lower and tilt bucket and drive front‑end loader forward to force bucket into bulk material.
  • Move levers to raise and tilt bucket when filled, drive vehicle to work site, and move levers to dump material.
  • Perform routine maintenance on loader, such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning.
  • Operate the equipment over rocky or uneven land safely; drive smoothly under harsh weather conditions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each Key Duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Education and Experience:

    This position typically is not an entry‑level job, as it requires demonstrable previous experience as a Front End Loader Operator. A high school diploma or GED is preferred. Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees. One (1) to Three (3) years or more of industry‑related experience is required for this position, with an emphasis on roads, highways, and bridges.
Physical

Demands
  • Constant physical effort, including standing for extended periods, stooping, bending, and crouching during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day.
  • Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50‑90 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
  • Maintain constant alertness to multiple concurrent activities on the construction site.
  • Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely.
  • Must have the ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds (e.g., moving equipment, backing alarms).
Work Environment
  • Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Work environment periodically exposes employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust typical of construction projects.
  • Employees regularly work near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
  • Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, and ready‑mixed concrete.
