This position has a direct impact on the daily experience of students, staff, visitors, and campus partners through reliable service, professionalism, and positive interactions.

The Housekeeper I, High Performance Work Team is responsible for maintaining assigned areas to established standards through a combination of custodial services and light maintenance tasks that support the overall safety, appearance, and functionality of campus spaces. Duties include routine, project, and deep cleaning; responding to service requests; and proactively addressing issues as they arise. The role requires flexibility to respond to emergencies or unforeseen needs, with assignments rotating as necessary to support departmental priorities and promote cross training.

This role requires foundational custodial knowledge and skills, including hard floor care, carpet care, sanitation practices, and the ability to safely perform basic maintenance tasks. A strong customer service mindset and attention to detail are essential for success in this position.

Responsibilities
  • Clean and maintain horizontal and vertical surfaces by dusting, wiping, and scrubbing furniture, walls, and equipment, including performing high dusting in hard-to-reach areas.
  • Vacuum carpeted areas, including moving and replacing furniture, and perform spot cleaning as needed.
  • Sweep and mop floors (both dry and wet), including stairwells, entrances, and other flooring areas.
  • Remove waste, including trash and recycling, in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Clean, sanitize and restock restrooms and common-use facilities (sinks, toilets, showers, mirrors, stalls, and receptacles). Apply knowledge of sanitation practices and proper use of cleaning chemicals.
  • Shampoo and extract carpets and upholstered surfaces as needed.
  • Perform hard floor care, including buffing and maintenance of floor finishes.
  • Clean windows, entryways, and other glass surfaces.
  • Assist with basic maintenance tasks such as painting, replacing light bulbs, carpet tiles, and ceiling tiles.
  • Identify and report maintenance, health, or sanitation deficiencies.
  • Support inventory control and maintain organized storage/cleaning closets.
  • Respond to emergencies or urgent situations (e.g., water leaks, biohazard cleanup, limited air quality issues).
  • Stand for up to eight hours and lift a minimum of 50 lbs. with or without an accommodation.
  • Occasional schedule flexibility may be necessary to support university events, which may include weekends and holidays.
Minimum Qualifications

Completion of 9th grade.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 1+ year of previous work experience in an operational environment.
  • 1+ year of previous experience performing basic maintenance tasks in a commercial or residential setting (painting, light bulb replacement, and minor carpet or ceiling tile repairs, etc.)
  • Experience with small and large tools required for essential tasks (floor care equipment, mop/mop bucket, dust mop, broom, scrub pad, common maintenance tools, etc.)
  • Familiarity with work order related software.
  • Capacity to understand safety guidelines and use approved chemicals by Environmental Health & Safety to perform essential job functions.
  • Customer service-oriented mindset with the ability to interact professionally with staff and respond to inquiries courteously.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to follow written and oral instructions effectively.
  • Basic decision-making abilities to assess and address cleaning and maintenance needs.
  • Adaptability to work under varied environmental conditions and schedules.
