POSITION SUMMARY
Leads the overall strategy and operations of the Marketing and Communications department, aligning marketing, communications, public relations, brand messaging, and storytelling with HFUW’s mission, strategic plan, and revenue goals. Oversees department staff, budgeting, policy development, cross-functional collaboration, and performance measurement to drive visibility, engagement, and organizational impact.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed below at a satisfactory level:
- Oversee the overall administration and operations of the Marketing and Communications department, ensuring excellence in execution, innovation, and alignment with organizational priorities.
- Develop and oversee a comprehensive, integrated marketing and communications strategy that supports HFUW’s mission, strategic plan, and long-term objectives.
- Use marketing and communications expertise to raise HFUW’s profile, enhance brand recognition, and support efforts to increase and diversify revenue.
- Create, manage, and monitor the department’s annual budget, contracts, and vendor relationships to ensure fiscal responsibility and resource optimization.
- Provide vision and direction for brand positioning, voice and messaging.
- Design and implement public and media relations strategies that position HFUW and its leaders as trusted voices in the community; serve as spokesperson and oversee crisis communication responses as needed.
- Build and maintain, strong relationships with media outlets, partners and influencers.
- Conduct and oversee market research to inform decision-making, shape programs, and guide communication strategies for diverse audiences.
- Ensure cross-departmental participation to align with HFUW’s strategic plan and performance metrics.
- Review and approve policies and procedures in all marketing and communications.
- Ensure HFUW’s readiness and ability to communicate effectively in times of disaster and emergency; serve as a key leader during critical incidents.
- Lead and develop a high-performing marketing and communications team, provide coaching, feedback, and growth opportunities to ensure department success.
- Ensure appropriate coaching, performance reviews, and professional development opportunities are provided to the department.
- Ensure adherence to all organizational policies and procedures, staying informed about updates, and promoting compliance within the team.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Development, Programs, and other departments to deliver integrated campaigns and shared messaging aligned with organizational goals.
- Partner with the HFUW leadership team to identify synergies, evaluate initiatives, and shape strategies that advance the organization’s mission and visibility.
- Evaluate data, KPIs, and trends to measure marketing effectiveness, inform improvements, and drive decisions that raise the profile of HFUW.
- Identified as essential, requiring prompt and effective action during critical situations to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
- Maintain client and staff confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA, FIPA, PHI, PII requirements.
- Contribute to overall organizational success by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Job requirements include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration, or related field required, or equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered in lieu of degree. Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid Driver License required.
- Seven years in marketing, communications, public relations, or brand management required.
- Prior non-profit experience preferred.
- Proven ability to manage complex, multi-channel marketing projects from planning through execution, ensuring timely delivery, budget adherence, and cross-functional coordination.
- Five years of supervisory or coaching experience required.
- Public speaking and presentation experience required.
- Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office and other related technology required.
