Etching Technician

The Etching & Printing Machine Technician plays a key role in supporting UDT's customer product configuration process at the Integration Center in Orlando, FL, and is part of the Life Cycle Management solution Lifecycle Services line of business. Persons in this role are accountable for ensuring the accurate and timely laser etching or UV Printing of UDT's customers' devices in accordance with customers' approved artwork needs, maintaining a working knowledge of the physical operation of UDT's laser etching and UV print systems, and creation/maintenance of various laser etching templates, artwork, and other necessary files.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for operating laser etching and UV printing machines in a safe and secure manner to ensure the successful production of etched or printed products for customers, in-house needs, and or special projects needs. Ability to follow and understand all proper safety guidelines and procedures. This includes both laser etching machines, particulate extraction systems, UV printers and ink, and additional hardware required for proper performance of laser etching the department.
  • Accountable for the proper execution of laser/print etch jobs as described in UDT Work Order details along with maintaining knowledge and organization of customer required etch artwork templates and procedures.
  • Responsible for creating, modifying, or designing appropriate templates to match customer examples/specifications and then upon completion, executing successful tests to present for customer approval.
  • Responsible for understanding the mechanical operations required for proper use and maintenance of laser etching and UV printing machines, including techniques to produce desired outcomes based on customer needs.
  • Responsible for coordinating maintenance needs, machine cleanings, and repairs needs in conjunction with shift leaders and management. Also responsible for maintaining maintenance records on each laser/print machine.
  • Responsible for engaging with machine manufacturers, distributors, or support technicians to troubleshoot machine errors and diagnose outstanding issues. Accountable for communication to leadership staff to notify of any potential production impacts to be planned around.
  • Responsible for the physical load, unload, and cleaning of devices placed in and removed from the etching and printing machines. Accountable for proper alignment and successful execution of laser etch and UV print passes, as well as damage done caused by misuse of equipment, negligence, or improper procedures.
  • Accountable for maintaining accurate inventory records with regards to movement of production inventory in and out of the etching and printing departments, including movement of product between storage locations within the department. This includes systematic accuracy as represented in UDT's Order Management System (OMS).
  • Responsible for making sure laser etching and UV printing machines are not left unattended during normal operation.
  • Responsible for communicating with 2nd shift staff to maintain maintenance knowledge of machines, consistent and accurate flow of production, and notification of any incoming changes/procedures within the department.
  • Special projects as needed by Company based on needs of the business, including assistance in other departments should the volume of etched or printed products drop below levels insufficient to encompass a full shift's labor.

Qualifications:

  • High School Degree or equivalent. Minimum of 2 years' experience in warehouse and/or production environments and systems OR
  • A combination of education and experience of equivalent time frame demonstrating similar skillsets applicable for the above listed responsibilities
  • Familiarity with art manipulation software is preferred (i.e. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Lightroom, etc).
  • Mechanical inclination with the ability to understand simple machine operations.
  • English speaking required. Bilingual preferred (English, Spanish).
  • Strong Process Orientation and Attention to Detail
  • Exceptional level of attention to detail.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Ability to work standing and bending for full shift, performing repetitive load/unload procedures during peak volume days.
  • Ability to Read, Analyze and understand work order workflows and instructions.
  • Ability to work independently without direct, constant management.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical manuals and/or procedures.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to confidently operate mechanical machinery.
  • Ability to communicate with other departments to manage flow of production volume and keep pace with production goals as previously described.
  • Ability to work 1 st shift hours, weekends, and at times into the later hours of the day as per business needs.
  • Must be able to read and understand English instructions.
