Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Machine Shop Manager, the Welder is responsible for fitting and welding mild steel, aluminum and stainless‑steel parts using TIG and/or MIG processes. As the Welder you will perform visual and measurement inspections for in‑process and finished production parts, maintain quality and safety standards, keep accurate records, and maintain equipment and supplies.
Responsibilities- Technical Operations:
- Set up welding machines based on the job at hand or a Welding Procedure Specification.
- Set up welding cells for serial production runs.
- TIG/MIG weld mild steel, aluminum and stainless‑steel components according to blueprints and specifications.
- Follow instructions from supervisor, scheduler, work orders, blueprints, materials, specifications, and surface locations.
- Work with team members to maximize productivity and efficiency.
- Quality Assurance:
- Inspect production parts through visual and measurement tests.
- Maintain equipment by completing daily and weekly preventive maintenance, following manufacturer instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, and requesting repairs.
- Provide a great level of attention to detail and focus on the task at hand.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all company safety rules, policies, and quality standards.
- Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
- Keep work areas clean and organized and take proper care of all equipment and facilities.
- Documentation and Communication:
- Read and interpret blueprints and/or drawings to determine specific welding requirements.
- Follow, create, and help maintain Welding Procedure Specifications.
- Document and communicate actions, irregularities, and ongoing needs to maintain continuity among work shifts.
- Take ownership of new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Discuss inspection results with the production team and communicate required adjustments or re‑work to supervisor.
- Training and Development:
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.
- Minimum 5 years of welding experience.
- Experience with mild steel, aluminum, and stainless steel.
- Experience with TIG and/or MIG welding.
- Ability to read and interpret welding symbols.
- Basic math, reading, and writing skills.
- Mechanical assembly understanding.
- Ability to understand and execute verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to work in a team environment to achieve a common goal.
- Conceptual skills, process improvement, verbal communication, functional and technical skills, controls and instrumentation, supply management, tooling, inventory control, judgment, and attention to detail.
- TIG and MIG certifications.
- Experience with process improvement and troubleshooting.
- Occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.
- Remain standing on feet for long periods of time.
- Frequent carrying, grasping, reaching, pulling, and stooping for parts and supplies.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Normal work hours, Monday through Friday
- 1st shift – 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM
