Harbor House of Central Florida - Shelter Supervisor
Harbor House of Central Florida is Orange County's state-certified Domestic Violence service provider. We are dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence through comprehensive services, including a 24‑hour crisis hotline, emergency shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, and community education.
Position OverviewThe Shelter Supervisor will be responsible for the safety, operation, administration, and staffing of the emergency shelter, hotline, youth and kennel programs during the evening and weekends. The Shelter Supervisor will support the Shelter Manager in overseeing employees and programming while ensuring a focus on the agency's mission.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee evening and weekend operations of the shelter, hotline, youth and kennel programs.
- Review and assess crisis intervention provided to survivors, providing feedback and skill development to evening and weekend shelter advocates to ensure quality of services.
- Oversee sanitation and maintenance of shelter and kennel facilities (kennels, exercise, training areas and grounds), aiding when needed using approved cleaning tools and methods.
- Provide ongoing staff development through training, education on programming techniques, services, information and referrals available to clients, along with scheduled monthly one‑on‑one supervision.
- Document, collect and compile statistical data to maintain compliance with established funding sources.
- Participate in and assist in conducting monthly staff meetings.
- Provide on‑call response to shelter staff during assigned evenings and weekends.
- Work with the Shelter Manager on shelter coverage to ensure adequate coverage and weekly review of payroll.
- Assist with the oversight of inventory, sorting, storage and distribution of purchased and donated supplies for the emergency shelter during the evening and weekend hours.
- Assist with overseeing volunteer groups.
- Participate in the weekly shelter staffing schedule by working two (2) eight‑hour shifts alongside direct service staff.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Education:
Minimum of an undergraduate degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field is preferred. - Experience:
Two (2) years' supervisory experience in the human services field preferred. Relevant program experience may be considered in lieu of education. - Discretion:
Professional experience may be substituted for formal education at the discretion of the Chief Executive Officer. - Licensing:
Valid Florida Driver's License. Must be 21 years or older to meet agency insurance requirements. - Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Ability to learn organization‑specific software. Strong professional writing and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment with attention to detail. - Training Requirements:
Completion of CORE Competency training within 90 days of hire. Additional mandatory training is required on an annual basis per Agency Policies & Procedures.
