Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgery at Celebration OverviewAHMG’s advanced practice providers manage the treatment and care for our patients in both the practice setting and at Advent Health’s eleven campuses across Florida, including Altamonte Springs, Apopka, Celebration, Advent Health for Children, East Orlando, Kissimmee, Orlando, Winter Park, Waterman, Winter Garden, and Advent Health for Women.
General SummaryThe APP, under the supervision of the physicians, is responsible for:
- Seeing patients in the clinic, including new patients, post‑op visits, and routine follow‑ups.
- Performing patient histories and physical exams in the office and hospital setting.
- Conducting telehealth visits.
- Assisting surgeons, often supporting several surgeons in a single practice.
- Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests such as labs and imaging.
- Monitoring the patient’s course of treatment and making appropriate referrals to other specialists as needed.
- First assisting in surgeries such as Sleeve Gastrectomy, Roux‑en‑Y Gastric Bypass, and bariatric surgery revisions.
- Collaborating with the physician supervisor to provide consistent care to patients and support to staff.
- Displaying a caring and professional attitude at all times.
- Writing post‑op orders in the recovery room, communicating with families, performing post‑op procedures, and engaging in other recovery care activities.
- Managing discharge planning, including dictating discharge summaries, writing prescriptions, explaining discharge instructions, and confirming follow‑up appointments.
- Documenting all interactions in a timely and thorough manner.
Main location:
Advent Health Celebration.
- Schedule:
Monday through Friday. - Call and weekend responsibilities.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and patients.
- Strong communication skills.
- Strong medical decision‑making abilities.
- Spanish bilingual or fluency encouraged.
Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies or Nursing with RNFA certification.
- 1–3 years of experience as a first assistant in bariatric surgery or general surgery (preferred).
- Current, valid Florida APRN or PA license.
- ANCC, NCCPA (or equivalent) certification.
- Current, valid DEA license.
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
- Surgeon First Assistant RNFA certification.
