Overview
Under the direction and supervision of the surgeon, the Cardiovascular Surgery PA-C or APRN-RNFA will perform cardiovascular surgical preparation procedures, per-operative and post-operative procedures, and assist in performing cardiovascular surgical procedures. The PA provides pre‑operative education, answers family questions regarding surgery, recovery, and risk factor modification.
Responsibilities- Obtain and perform history and physical examinations.
- Record and interpret pertinent data (labs, diagnostic studies, discharge summaries, progress notes, etc.) including writing orders and discharges.
- First assisting in cardiovascular surgery, vein and radial artery harvesting; first assisting with CABG, valve, aortic and thoracic surgery.
- Perform general peri-surgical procedures in the hospital and clinic.
- Admit patients, attend rounds, complete discharge summaries with medication reconciliation and appropriate follow‑up.
- Manage patients pre‑ and post‑implantation for Ventricular Assist Devices and Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.
- Manage patients undergoing Trans‑Catheter Valve Procedures.
- Monday through Friday.
- Weeknight on‑call responsibilities with rotating weekend coverage.
- Campuses covered:
Advent Health Orlando & Advent Health Celebration.
- Master's degree in Physician Assistant studies or APRN.
- Endoscopic Vein Harvesting (EVH) experience.
- Practicing experience as a cardiothoracic/cardiovascular surgery PA or APRN‑RNFA.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and patients.
- Strong communication skills.
- Strong medical decision‑making skills.
- Current, valid Florida PA‑C or APRN license or ability to obtain.
- RNFA required for APRN.
- Accreditation by NCCPA or other nationally recognized certification organizations.
- BLS and ACLS.
