Job Summary
The Orlando Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center is looking for a Licensed Practical Nurse to work in Nursing Perioperative under the Surgical Specialty Clinic. The LPN is responsible for the care of Veterans with acute and/or chronic medical, surgical, and/or mental health conditions. The incumbent provides coordinated care across the lifespan of Veterans, families, caregivers, groups, populations, and communities.

- VA Careers - Licensed Practical Nurse: Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The Surgical Specialty LPN is responsible for surgical and non-surgical patient care and works in collaboration with others. The LPN provides post‑op care, wound care, or any other nursing interventions as permitted by the governing licensing authorities and/or the Veteran Health Administration. Training and maintaining competency in set up and break down of minor procedures is mandatory.
The Specialty LPN enters orders for labs, supplies, and prosthetic items as permitted per nursing protocol policy. Additionally, the LPN provides education to patients, families, significant others, and/or caregivers, and will float to other specialty areas as needed. Duties include but are not limit to:
Demonstrates knowledge of practical nursing care exercising judgement in planning and intervention, requiring supervision to provide a practical knowledge of human body structure, sterile techniques, and procedures Cares for Veterans in accordance with established nursing procedures, standards of care and plan of care Seeks guidance from appropriate resources to interpret unclear or unfamiliar drugs or dosages Recognizes and documents changes in Veteran's condition, reporting changes to the RN and/or Provider, initiating action with direction Complies with and adheres to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for reprocessing/cleaning Reusable Medical Equipment (RME).
RME cleaning will be done in accordance with the schedule within the area.

Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience.
Parental Leave:
After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy:
After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66. Retirement:
