Registered Nurse (RN) – Transition Newborn Nursery at UCF Lake Nona Hospital. This role involves coordinating and delivering high‑quality, patient‑centered care in the newborn nursery, advocating for patients and families, and collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal outcomes.
Responsibilities- Collect comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health or situation.
- Advocate for patients as part of the interdisciplinary team.
- Identify expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient and the situation.
- Ensure effective care and use of time, supplies, and equipment.
- Educate patients regarding their medications, procedures, and treatments, providing patients and their families with support throughout their stay.
- Assign initial Apgar scores and facilitate skin‑to‑skin bonding for a minimum of 1 hour.
- Assist with breastfeeding or feeding choices during the first hour and beyond prior to moving to mother‑baby room.
- Assess and reassess the newborn(s) respiratory and airway support using neonatal resuscitation program guidelines, thermoregulation, and metabolic stability as appropriate.
- Develop care plans that promote, facilitate, and maintain newborn wellness.
- Provide newborn care at the bedside while promoting skin‑to‑skin contact, breastfeeding, bonding, and transition support.
- Administer medications as needed, provide neonatal abstinence scoring and urine/meconium collection as needed, as well as blood glucose and SaO₂ monitoring, lab work.
- Implement appropriate patient care interventions and evaluate them to ensure an appropriate level of care is provided.
- Communicate effectively with other departments in an effort to resolve issues ensuring efficient and optimal patient care outcomes.
- Act as a mentor to Labor and Delivery & Mother‑Baby Nurses as relief during busier times.
- Ensure that physician orders for the newborn are noted and correctly transcribed.
- During adoption, follow maternal requests for skin‑to‑skin and bonding; follow the delivering mother’s guidance to allow adoptive parents the same experience.
- Provide opportunities for surrogacy adoption bonding.
- Florida RN license and/or approved multistate RN license required. Compact license holders have 60 days to obtain the Florida license after relocation.
- 1 year of RN experience within Women’s Services, preferred—Nursery, L&D, NICU.
- BSN preferred.
- Neonate Resuscitate certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
- Associate Degree or Registered Nurse Diploma.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or ACLS Instructor certification must be obtained within 4 months of employment start date.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or BLS Instructor certification must be obtained before employment start date.
- STABLE certification within 6 months.
- NIH Stroke Scale certification within 30 days.
