ResponsibilitiesThe Labor and Delivery Unit (L &
D) provides comprehensive patient‑centered obstetrical nursing care for both low‐ and high‑risk families during the antenatal, labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum periods.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing care for mothers in active labor, with or without epidurals
- Assisting with induction of labor
- Managing immediate postpartum recovery
- Providing immediate newborn care post‑delivery
- Addressing complications of pregnancy requiring inpatient and outpatient evaluation
- Offering emotional and physical support for patients requiring medical termination of pregnancy post‑fetal demise
- Co‑ordinating with 24‑hour anesthesia service for pain management in labor and anesthesia management during cesarean birth

- Graduate of an approved nursing school
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)
- Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification
- Current ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC certification required for certain areas
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse in Labor & Delivery or OB/GYN; or 1 year of experience in any inpatient specialty (e.g., Med‑surg, MBU, Neuro, Cardio, OR) for current Orlando Health RNs
- Meets all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Orlando Health and the unit/department
