Role Summary

The Registered Nurse administers patient care in an area in a hospital or inpatient setting where patients have an advanced illness or injury that routinely requires timely, intense, and complex care to stabilize and support the patient’s medical condition. These areas require a lower caregiver-to-patient ratio and highly trained team members with advanced skills.

Qualifications
  • Education/Training
    :
    Graduate of an approved school of nursing. Meets all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Orlando Health and unit/department.
  • Licensure/Certification
    :
    Current RN license in the State of Florida or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification. ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC are required for certain areas.
  • Experience
    : 1 year of RN experience required; 1-2 years of Operating Room RN is preferred; 2+ years in cardiovascular operating room strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate critical knowledge, skills, and judgment to care for patients requiring complex assessment and therapies, high-intensity interventions, and high-level continuous nursing vigilance.
  • Utilize information and assessment data to anticipate and respond with confidence to rapidly changing patient conditions.
  • Identify and prioritize information to take immediate, evidence-based, patient-focused action.
  • Monitor and adjust specialized equipment; interpret and record electronic displays and cardiac rhythms from monitors, respirators, ventilators, and related equipment.
  • Respond to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocol.
  • Assess patient needs and develop/revise an individualized plan of care; evaluate progress toward outcomes.
  • Respect diversity and build respectful relationships with team members and patients/families.
  • Serve as a patient and family advocate and as a preceptor, charge nurse, unit educator, or nurse clinician as appropriate.
  • Communicate and collaborate with medical staff and the interdisciplinary team to plan and manage the unit/department.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development, assess patient status, and address age-specific needs.
  • Coordinate care and delegate tasks to appropriate team members.
  • Document patient care accurately, including assessment, education, medications, treatments, and safety.
  • Maintain compliance with Orlando Health policies and procedures and participate in ongoing professional development.

  • Contribute to knowledge and skills development of others and drive continuous improvement in care quality and organizational outcomes.
  • Participate in unit and organizational committees and peer review, mentoring, and coaching.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area and practice efficient use of supplies.
  • Attend staff development in-services and departmental meetings; partner with nursing leadership for professional development needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
