Position Summary
We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Cardiac ICU team at Orlando Regional Medical Center. The ideal candidate has advanced clinical expertise in complex cardiac conditions such as cardiogenic shock, mechanical circulatory support (MCS), LVAD, ECMO, and cardiac surgery pre‑ and post‑operative care. As an APP, you will manage critically ill patients, deliver high‑quality care, and support a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities- Provides direct clinical services for critically ill patients according to established protocols and evidence‑based standards.
- Assesses, diagnoses, and manages patients with acute cardiac conditions, including cardiogenic shock, MCS devices, LVAD, and ECMO.
- Provides comprehensive pre‑operative and post‑operative care for cardiac surgery patients.
- Monitors and interprets diagnostic tests and data, including echocardiograms, lab results, and hemodynamic monitoring.
- Prescribes medication using evidence‑based medicine and manages vasopressors and inotropic support for critically ill patients.
- Develops and implements treatment plans in collaboration with advanced heart failure, cardiology, and cardiac surgery teams.
- Performs procedures such as central line insertion, PAC insertion, arterial line placement, intubation, chest tubes, paracentesis, and thoracentesis.
- Participates in daily rounds and contributes to care planning and decision‑making processes.
- Performs advanced cardiac life support; acts on behalf of supervising medical staff to maintain life support until a licensed physician arrives.
- Communicates effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team regarding status, treatment plans, and discharge planning.
- Stays current with advancements in cardiac critical care and integrates new knowledge into clinical practice.
- Embodies professionalism through conduct, appearance, communication, mutual respect, ethical decision‑making, and leadership skills.
- Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- Education/Training: MN, MSN, DNP, PhD, or DNS degree in nursing; or graduate of an accredited physician assistant program.
- Licensure/Certification: NURSE PRACTITIONER: APRN license in Florida, national advanced certification (if licensed after July 1, 2006), current BLS. PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT: PA license in Florida, current BLS/healthcare certification.
- Experience: Critical Care experience preferred.
