Bariatric Surgery Nurse

Position Summary

Location:

ORMC 52 W. Underwood St. Orlando, FL 32809 Status:
Full Time, three 12 hour shifts Shift: Nights 7 pm - 7 am

Bariatric Surgery is a 16-bed unit specializing in bariatric and metabolic surgery. We see surgeries such as sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, duodenal switch, and various conversions/revisions. We also work with three of the top bariatric surgeons in the world. This unit is ideal for those who enjoy partnering with patients to help achieve desired health goals and helping facilitate positive patient experiences.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Assess patient's needs and develop/revise an individualized plan of care based on patient needs and responses. Evaluate the patient's progress toward attaining expected outcomes.
  • Respect diversity by building respectful relationships with all team members and customers.
  • Function as a patient and family advocate.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients on his or her assigned unit/department.
  • Serve as a preceptor, charge nurse, unit educator, and/or nurse clinician.
  • Communicate and collaborate with medical staff and interdisciplinary team to effectively plan and manage the unit/department.
  • Serve as a role model for staff and support the hospital and nursing department's goals and strategies.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, assess the data reflective of the patient's status, and interpret the necessary information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age specific needs.
  • Coordinate the care and delegate as appropriate to other team members on a defined group of patients.
  • Document patient care in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner meeting all required and regulatory standards. This includes but is not limited to patient assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and patient safety.
  • Demonstrate competency in nursing skills and use of patient care/unit equipment as defined by unit/department-specific requisite skills.
  • Prioritize patient care in an ongoing manner in accordance with Evidence-Based Practice Standards of Care.
  • Practice effective problem identification and resolution.
  • Delegate tasks and duties to healthcare team members in accordance with the patient's needs and the team member's capabilities and qualifications.
  • Communicate appropriate information regarding patient condition or unit concerns to other health care team members.
  • Demonstrate caring practices by providing a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and their families.
  • Demonstrate awareness of legal issues and patients' rights.
  • Collaborate with the education department and nursing leadership team to effectively transition and support new team members and/or students.

Qualifications

Education/Training

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing.

Licensure/Certification

  • Maintains current State of Florida RN license or valid eNLC multistate RN license.
  • Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.

Experience

  • 1 year experience preferred
