Position: Doctoral Student-Spring/Fall 2027

Focus

Development of advanced electrochemical materials and systems for sustainable energy, water, carbon management, and resource recovery, with training in materials synthesis, electrode functionalization, electrochemical testing, materials characterization, and advanced electrochemical methods.

Research Areas
  • Synthesis of novel PGM and PGM-free materials for electrocatalysis
  • Functionalized electrolyzers for electrolysis, electrodialysis, and electrochemical separations
  • Interface engineering for improved activity, selectivity, stability, and corrosion resistance
  • Materials characterization and electrochemical performance evaluation
  • High-throughput electrochemical characterization, including SECM when relevant to the project
Responsibilities
  • Conduct materials synthesis and electrode fabrication
  • Perform electrochemical and electrolyzer testing, including CV, LSV, EIS, CA, CP, and stability studies
  • Characterize materials using SEM, XRD, XPS, Raman, FTIR, or related methods
  • Analyze data and participate in manuscript preparation
  • Present research progress in group meetings and conferences
  • Collaborate with group members and external researchers
Qualifications

Applicants should have, or expect to receive, a B.S. or M.S. degree in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, electrochemistry, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field. Preferred background includes materials, chemistry, electrochemistry, and interest in sustainable energy, water, and environmental technologies.
