A Day in the Life

The Senior Biologist, Natural Resources position supports environmental due diligence, permitting and environmental impact assessments in the southeast region. This role is based in Orlando, FL. The annual compensation range for this role is $90,000 to $110,000, plus an annual bonus, commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location. To thrive in this role, you’ll be comfortable taking ownership of the following responsibilities:

  • Provide senior leadership of the existing due diligence and natural resources team in Orlando with project work typically performed in Florida and occasionally in the Southeast U.S.
  • Provide senior technical mentorship and support within the group’s technical focus areas.
  • Perform Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) in accordance with ASTM E1527-21 and corridor studies (CSERs) on county and state roadway projects.
  • Perform natural resource surveys including wetland delineations and assessments, wildlife surveys, threatened and endangered species surveys, and data collection.
  • Perform assessments as part of the NEPA process, evaluating potential impacts on wildlife, habitats and ecosystems.
  • Assess potential impacts to threatened and endangered species and wetland systems; develop mitigation strategies to support client objectives.
  • Conduct post-survey data management.
  • Manage environmental consulting projects from proposal through completion, including scope, schedule, budget and risk management.
  • Track project financials, including budgets, forecasts, change orders, subcontract agreements and invoicing.
  • Serve as the primary client manager, working directly with developers, utilities, state and local governments, municipalities and legal counsel.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary staff and subconsultant team with backgrounds in due diligence, wetlands, wildlife management, airport wildlife management, ecology, permitting and GIS.
  • Prepare and review reports and applications for federal, state and local regulatory agencies.
  • Support proposal development, scopes of work, cost estimates and technical approaches.
  • Maintain client and project confidentiality at all times.
  • Exercise safe work practices by following company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including required safety training programs.
  • Participate in the company’s continuous improvement programs and support team efforts.
  • Keep up-to-date on industry trends by completing formal training, reviewing professional publications, and attending professional workshops.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Your Expertise and Skills
  • Bachelor’s in Environmental Science, Wildlife Ecology, Wetland Ecology, Fisheries, or related field.
  • 10+ years of professional due diligence and natural resources experience in Florida and/or Southeast U.S.
  • Experience with southeast wetland ecology, wildlife ecology, and/or botany.
  • Willingness and desire to lead and support field assignments as needed for extended periods of time.
  • Familiarity with field survey techniques and wetland delineations, including sub-meter GPS technologies and map interpretation skills (e.g., NWI, USGS, aerial photography).
  • Professional certifications such as PWS, WPIT, CE, Q/CAWB, or eligibility preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written/verbal communication and strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail, while maintaining the big picture.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; GIS software experience is highly desired.
  • Ability to produce clear and concise written documents; excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage workflows that include field work and reporting tasks for multiple projects in a timely manner.
