the environmental supervisor iv, , is in the division of environmental assessment and restoration’s water quality monitoring program, central regional operation center in orlando. This professional environmental position is responsible for managing, coordinating, and conducting monitoring and assessment activities within their regional office. The role includes managing staff and office operations, performing field-based biological and water quality assessments, completing office-based planning and administrative duties, and carrying out data analysis and data management responsibilities.

spends majority of their time communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees; and planning and directing employees’ work, and has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. Perform supervisory duties including identifying, developing, and mentoring staff to foster leaders. Conduct performance evaluations and prepare performance plans as directed by the division.

Take a proactive approach to addressing poor performance by providing regular feedback, coaching, and additional training opportunities, as well as implementing improvement plans when necessary. Facilitate open communication to understand underlying challenges, offer guidance, and encourage professional development. For top performers, recognize achievements through public acknowledgment, recommend them for advanced projects or leadership roles, and support their participation in specialized training and development programs to further enhance their skills and visibility.

Ensure accurate tracking of time and attendance for all subordinates. Attend program training as necessary and assist in the onboarding and training of new personnel.

directs and provides oversight of staff responsibilities in all aspects of regional monitoring activities for the water quality monitoring program (wqmp). Ensures that all aspects of the water quality monitoring program’s status and trend networks, strategic monitoring, tmdl, bmap, and any other assigned monitoring plans are implemented, and data quality objectives are met in the most efficient and timely manner. Ensure that monitoring plans are implemented in coordination with project liaisons/coordinators located in tallahassee.

Responsible for the completion of all monitoring projects within the assigned project deadlines. Manage and oversee all field staff activities in all aspects, including ensuring full adherence to established standard operating procedures (sops), of their work including sample collection, handling and processing; data management, review, entry into dep databases and interpretation; report writing, quality assurance and any response operation activities (i.e., fish kills, complaint investigations, etc.).

Ensures general administrative functions are accomplished (for example, proper handling of correspondence, adequate office equipment and supplies, and responsible and efficient use of department resources).

oversee and participates in all aspects of the program’s monitoring activities in their regional office. Water quality sampling is conducted on both surface and groundwater. Biological assessments may include taxonomic analysis of freshwater, estuarine and marine flora and fauna. Participation in dep training and certifications are required to conduct water quality data collection and specialized floral and faunal biological assessments, including the stream condition index, rapid periphyton survey, lake vegetation index, linear vegetation survey, and stream and lake habitat assessments.

provides technical assistance to the local dep district with sampling and other monitoring or bioassessment needs. Coordinates complaint investigations as requested for non-point source or point source related water pollution violations, such as fish kills, algae blooms, reports of odor, foam, etc. These activities should be coordinated through the regional manager, and prior approval should be acquired. Responds in a timely manner to inquiries from the public, the media, and elected officials, local governments, per established agency guidelines and procedures.

Provides action item reply within required time frames.

keeps the environmental administrator informed of section activities and concerns, responds to the environmental administrator in a timely manner and performs other duties, including representing in their absence.

may volunteer to snorkel. Boater safety training is required.
