Position Summary

Provides security services to ensure order and safety of patients, visitors, and hospital personnel at Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC).

Responsibilities
  • Escort visitors, employees, and students upon request.
  • Patrol all areas of the hospital internally and externally on foot, bicycle, or vehicle 24 hours a day in all weather conditions. (Motor‑vehicle patrols are limited to officers who meet the driver’s license standards for operating an Orlando Health owned vehicle.)
  • Provide key assists to all areas of the hospital, including sensitive areas, to authorized personnel.
  • Detect suspicious activities within the campus and handle situations appropriately.
  • Report criminal activity to supervisor and law enforcement as appropriate.
  • Investigate accident scenes, search for and preserve evidence, interview witnesses, make oral and written reports, and respond to varying situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Assist medical staff in enforcing the Baker Act and Marchman Act for patients requiring approved medical restraints, as requested by physicians under Florida Statutes.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement and correction officers regarding patient and prisoner intake and status during their stay in the hospital; assist the Patient Care Coordinator in securing non‑publicity/high‑risk patients.
  • Report all safety and security violations throughout the campus.
  • Respond to inbound and outbound helicopter flights, ensuring the safety of the helipad and assisting flight crew with patient transport as needed.
  • Use walk‑through and hand‑held metal detectors as required.
  • Maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance and comply with Orlando Health policies, ADA, FMLA, and other applicable standards.
Other Related Functions
  • Respond to threats or acts of violence towards patients, staff, and visitors, hostage situations, child abductions, patient elopement, person down, emergency intake, fire alarms, severe weather, access control, hospital system failures, bomb threats or suspicious packages, hazardous material spills, and related searches.
  • Document incidents through an Event Report and photograph slips/trip and fall events for liability mitigation.
  • Enforce injunctions established by the state of Florida.
  • Respond to disturbance calls such as domestic disputes, disorderly conduct, fights, and similar incidents.
  • Assist department managers by escorting terminated employees.
  • Officers may be required to testify or be subpoenaed by any court proceedings.
Qualifications Education / Training
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word for report writing purposes.
Licensure / Certification
  • Must have a valid Florida driver’s license and be insurable under Orlando Health insurance carrier’s requirements and standards. Officers unable to maintain this requirement after at least 90 days of employment must sign a “No Driving Document” until the approval to drive is granted.
  • Must obtain a State of Florida Class “D” Security Officer License within 120 days of hire and renew biannually before expiration.
  • Must obtain Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification within 120 days of hire and renew annually before expiration.
  • Must obtain a Basic Security Officer Certification or higher level of certification through the International Association of Hospital Security and Safety within 120 days of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
