As a Service Technician III, you’ll operate as a senior/journeyman-level expert, independently handling complex commercial HVAC service calls, advanced diagnostics, repairs, maintenance, and system startups across a wide range of equipment in buildings, hospitals, schools, industrial facilities, and more. Lead service efforts on challenging jobs, mentor junior technicians, and deliver high-reliability solutions that ensure code compliance, energy efficiency, and outstanding customer satisfaction.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Independently diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain complex commercial HVAC systems, including rooftop units, split systems, chillers, boilers, VAV boxes, air handlers, central plants, controls/DDC, large-tonnage equipment, and both wet-side (hydronic) and dry-side (air-side) applications.
  • Perform advanced repairs such as major component replacements (compressors, evaporators, condensers, controls, valves, pumps), refrigerant recovery/recharge/handling, system balancing, startup/commissioning, and retrofits/upgrades.
  • Conduct thorough preventive maintenance, performance testing, energy-efficiency assessments, leak detection, and system optimization to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Lead full service calls from dispatch to completion: assess on-site issues, communicate clearly with customers on findings/recommendations/solutions, coordinate parts and materials, execute work, and follow up for satisfaction.
  • Ensure all work complies with codes, regulations, manufacturer specifications, EPA requirements, and Modigent safety/quality standards.
  • Document service activities in detail (work orders, reports, photos, as-builts, recommendations) and maintain accurate records for billing, warranty, and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor and guide Service Technician I and II team members by demonstrating techniques, sharing best practices, supporting on-the-job learning, and promoting safety and quality standards.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Yes – Provides coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance to junior Service Technicians (Levels I and II); may lead small service teams or coordinate with subcontractors on complex calls, ensuring alignment with safety, quality, and customer expectations.

Requirements/Qualifications
  • Experience
    : 5+ years of progressive hands‑on commercial HVAC service, repair, and maintenance experience; proven journeyman‑level proficiency in diagnosing and resolving advanced system issues independently.
  • Education
    :
    High school diploma or GED required; trade school, apprenticeship completion, or equivalent preferred.
  • Certifications
    : EPA Section 608 certification (Universal strongly preferred); NATE certification, manufacturer‑specific training, OSHA 10/30‑hour, or other relevant credentials a plus.
  • Physical Demands
    :
    Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs, climb ladders/scaffolding/stairs, work in confined spaces or at heights, bend/kneel/crouch, reach overhead, and use diagnostic tools/equipment for extended periods; frequent standing, walking, manual dexterity, and physical stamina required.
  • Work Environment/Safety
    :
    Primarily field‑based in commercial/industrial settings (indoor/outdoor, varying weather, rooftops, mechanical rooms); exposure to noise, dust, heights, refrigerants, electrical hazards, and extreme temperatures; must strictly adhere to OSHA regulations, EPA protocols, conduct hazard identification, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, harnesses, and steel‑toed boots at all times—safety is our top priority and non‑negotiable.

    This is a safety‑sensitive position. Frequent regional travel within assigned market, on‑call rotations, and flexible hours (including evenings/weekends) may be required as business needs dictate.
