The Utility Worker
- Water Meter Installer plays a critical role in ensuring accurate measurement and monitoring of water usage for residential, commercial, and industrial customers. This position involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of water meters and related equipment, contributing directly to the efficient management of water resources. The role requires working outdoors in various weather conditions and interacting with customers to explain procedures or address concerns.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with utility teams to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements. Ultimately, this position supports the infrastructure that enables reliable water service and accurate billing for the community.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and work in physically demanding conditions.
- Basic knowledge of water meter systems and construction site safety practices.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and flexible to work overtime or weekends as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in water meter installation or utility work.
- Certification in confined space entry or OSHA safety training.
- Familiarity with hand and power tools used in meter installation and repair.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience using mobile devices or software for data collection and reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Install new water meters and replace or repair existing meters according to company standards and specifications.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance on water meter equipment to ensure proper functionality and accuracy.
- Read and record meter data accurately, and report any discrepancies or malfunctions to the appropriate department.
- Communicate effectively with customers to explain installation processes, answer questions, and address any concerns.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulatory guidelines while working on-site, including traffic control and confined space entry when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent on each job.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to coordinate work schedules and respond to emergency repairs or service interruptions.
