Your Purpose :

As a Train Body Repair Specialist , you will be responsible for restoring train bodies to optimal condition following damage. Your duties will include conducting detailed inspections to assess the extent of structural or cosmetic damage, applying industry-standard repair techniques, and using specialized tools to perform high-quality repairs. You will ensure all work complies with safety regulations and quality standards, contributing to the reliability and safety of the rail fleet.

Your Role [ Essential Functions ] :

Utilize industry-standard techniques to restore trains to pre-accident condition .

Mend damaged bodyby hammering out or filling in dents and welding broken parts; ensure all gaps and fits are to industry standards; remove damaged nose cones, panels, steps, handrails, etc.

Disassembly and Repair

Complete disassemblyof locomotive components damaged during incidents.

File, grind, and sandrepaired surfaces and prepare them for painting.

Perform paint repairsusing sprayers.

Safety and Compliance

Comply with all Brightline safety rules, guidelines, and standards.

Inspect equipment for any unusual or hazardous conditions; immediately address any unsafe conditions.

Experience & Qualifications Required

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED required , some college, technical certification, or vocational training preferred.

3+ years of professional experience in auto body repair, or similar maintenance operations, preferably in railroad, manufacturing, or similar environments.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities :

Understanding of metal fabrication, welding, riveting, and composite repair methods used in train body restoration.

Operate a variety of hand and power tools (e.g., welder, soldering equipment, cutting torch, blocks, hammers, wrenches, sander, spray guns, etc.).

Ability to interpret damage reports, schematics, and inspection findings to determine repair needs.

Work effectively with other technicians, engineers, and supervisors to coordinate repair efforts.

Must be able and willing to work any shift or on weekends and holidays based on operational needs as necessary. Brightline operates on a continuous, set schedule. On-call availability is a necessity.

Good physical condition to handle the demands of the job, which may include working in various weather conditions and performing manual tasks. Capable of operating machinery, lift, climb, push, pull and bend for extended periods frequently lifting and/or moving objects up to 50 pounds

Ability to analyze, prioritize, and attend to multiple tasks under stressful conditions.

Ability to solve problems quickly and react well to changing conditions on the job.

Effective communicator adept at establishing rapport across all organizational levels, fostering productive relationships crucial for operational success.

Strong focus on safety and attention to detail to consistently deliver high-quality work.

Well-versed in safety protocols and regulations related to maintenance operations. Wear personal protective equip ment when required and necessary

Effective in working with other maintenance technicians and following managerial instructions.

Basic mathematics skills.

Work safely and effectively under pressure, including during emergency situations

Make sound independent decisions within established guidelines.

Work Environment:

Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. Occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions in the plant. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

Physical Demands:

Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. This position is very active and the employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl all day. The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 pounds.

No specific vision requirements.

Objects weighing 70 pounds or more must be accompanied by a second individual to avoid injury.
