OpportunityThe Maintenance Department is seeking an experienced Electrician II to perform and install rough‑in and finished electrical work for university projects, including new construction and renovations across campus.
Responsibilities- Maintain and service low and medium voltage components; perform repair and replacement of electrical installations; test, calibrate, and maintain controls, transformers, and watt‑hour meters; clean and maintain power distribution equipment, tools, and supplies.
- Maintain and repair fire alarm systems; service wiring and electrical equipment; locate and correct power failures; perform emergency electrical repairs.
- Execute preventative maintenance on electrical systems; ensure maintenance requirements for new and existing systems are initiated and updated accurately.
- Complete assigned work orders in a timely manner using the CMMS system.
- Assist in maintaining internal controls to ensure effective operations and compliance with laws, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
- Coordinate with stakeholders to schedule utility and equipment shutdowns or area closures necessary for project completion.
- Adhere to committed schedule completion dates and productivity standards, reporting any discrepancies.
- Review all work orders and ensure accurate CMMS data entry including status, details, costs, dates, invoices, images, and corrective actions.
- Respond promptly to life safety and urgent work orders.
- Participate in the Quality Assurance (QA) and Audit program.
Licensed as an electrician in the State of Florida and 3+ years of relevant experience. For applicants holding a license in Georgia, North Carolina, or California with reciprocity, apply to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation for equivalent license. For applicants from non‑reciprocal states, take the Florida examination within six months.
Preferred Qualifications- At least 4 years of relevant experience with a strong background in maintaining and repairing electrical systems in a commercial or institutional setting.
- Experience with university or large facility maintenance operations.
- Proficiency in preventative maintenance and repair tasks; ability to interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Strong troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance skills with attention to detail.
- Understanding of low and medium voltage systems, transformers, controls, and fire alarm systems.
- Knowledge of trade classifications and functions, including tools, materials, and task sequencing for maintenance and sanitation.
- Effective communication in conversational English to work with customers and team members and understand safety procedures.
- Experience with Integrated Work Management Systems or similar platforms for work order management.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong communication skills for clear and concise updates and reports.
- Familiarity with national and state electrical codes and regulations.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends.
UCF requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.
Special Instructions to ApplicantsPosition requires a valid Class E driver’s license. The role may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct university business.
CompensationSalary range: $26.83 to $35.89 per hour, plus a 5% Shift Differential Pay on the minimum of the range. Final salary will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
