The Scenic Artist is responsible for preparing, painting, texturing, and finishing scenic and fabricated elements for themed entertainment, immersive experiences, architectural environments, attractions, and custom fabrication projects.

This position requires advanced artistic and technical abilities, a strong understanding of scenic painting techniques, and the ability to independently execute complex finishes while maintaining quality, safety, and production schedules.

Scenic Artists are highly skilled team members capable of interpreting design intent, producing finish samples, and executing detailed scenic treatments with minimal supervision while supporting the creative vision of Nassal's themed entertainment projects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Follow all safety regulations, PPE requirements, and shop procedures.
  • Prepare scenic surfaces through sanding, filling, masking, priming, texturing, and finishing techniques.
  • Apply paints, coatings, stains, and specialty finishes using brushes, rollers, HVLP spray equipment, and airbrushes.
  • Execute advanced faux-finishing techniques including woodgrain, stone, metal, marble, patinas, aging, weathering, distressing, gradients, and custom decorative finishes.
  • Read and interpret color boards, finish samples, design drawings, elevations, and client reference materials.
  • Create finish samples and mockups for review by project teams, foremen, designers, and clients.
  • Mix paints and coatings to achieve exact colors, textures, and finish requirements.
  • Produce high-quality scenic finishes while maintaining schedule commitments and quality expectations.
  • Inspect completed work for consistency, durability, appearance, and compliance with design intent.
  • Collaborate with sculptors, carpenters, welders, production teams, foremen, and project managers to ensure successful project execution.
  • Maintain paint equipment, spray systems, tools, and work areas in proper working conditions.
  • Provide mentorship and technical assistance to apprentices and junior scenic artists when needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum 4–5 years of professional scenic painting experience required.
  • Experience working in themed entertainment, scenic fabrication, theatrical scenery, museums, immersive environments, specialty finishes, or related industries preferred.
  • Proficiency with HVLP spray equipment and water-based, solvent-based, and urethane coatings.
  • Demonstrated expertise in faux-finishing techniques including woodgrain, stone, metal, patinas, marble, weathering, and specialty textures.
  • Ability to read and interpret design drawings, color boards, finish schedules, and project specifications.
  • Strong understanding of scenic materials, coatings, application methods, and finishing techniques.
  • Experience creating paint samples and mockups for approval.
  • Strong time-management skills and ability to work effectively under production deadlines.
  • Formal training in scenic arts, fine arts, theatrical painting, or related fields is preferred but not required.
  • Commitment to ongoing skill development and artistic growth.
