Maintenance Category A Maintenance Laborer

The primary purpose of this position is to support the daily operations of the maintenance department by assisting with the repair and preventative maintenance of building systems and envelope in the district. This position is responsible for completing assigned tasks safely, efficiently, and in accordance with district and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines. The Maintenance Laborer contributes to ensuring district buildings remain functional, safe, and well-maintained for students, staff, and community stakeholders.

Job duties include supporting skilled trades in performing building maintenance, repairs, and minor installations. Conduct routine facility inspections and assist with routine preventative maintenance including but not limited to filter replacement, ceiling tile installation, or minor painting. Assist with equipment and supply delivery, and shop inventory organization. Respond to facility service calls and emergency issues as needed. Operate hand tools and maintenance equipment under supervision and in accordance with safety procedures.

Support special event and project setup or teardown as required. Maintain "on-call" status to respond to building emergencies and/or after-hour events such as fire alarms, break-ins, snow/ice management or severe weather damage. Work collaboratively with departmental and district personnel to ensure the efficient operation and upkeep of all facilities. Facilitate snow and ice management operations using equipment and de-icing materials to maintain safe access.

Use approved communication platforms and the district's work order system to promptly receive, initiate, track, complete, and close work orders and routinely monitor email and notifications for timely responses. Serve as a custodian floater to provide relief and maintain operations as needed. Other duties as assigned.

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Valid Illinois Driver's License required. Bilingual
- Spanish/English - written/verbal (preferred).

Experience/Knowledge:
General working knowledge of electrical, plumbing systems, HVAC systems, and carpentry. Ability to safely and proficiently use tools and equipment common to building maintenance trade. Knowledge of basic arithmetic, terminology, and craft skills, including shop and system mathematical calculations common to the building maintenance trade preferred. Knowledge of safety procedures and practices common to the building maintenance trade. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively and effectively with adults, students and community members.

Basic computer knowledge. Ability to communicate verbally and successfully complete written documentation in English.

Physical Demands:
Ability to sit, stand, kneel, stoop, climb stairs, and walk for extended periods of time. Ability to lift in excess of 75 lbs. with proper technique. Ability to work safely from stepladder, aerial lifts, and/or scaffolding at varying heights, up to 60 ft. Ability to push/pull 100 pounds with proper technique. Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions, including exposure to extreme heat, cold, humidity, and inclement weather for prolonged periods.

Terms of Employment:
This is a 12-month ESSO position. Salary and benefits are as established by the agreement between ESSO and the Board of Education. Flexibility in work days/hours and overtime may be required. (Monday
- Friday 2:30pm to 11:00pm) The starting rate for this role is $18.68/hr.
